WARNING: AVOID PIRIN EUROPEAN SUPERMARKET AT ALL COSTS!
I have shopped at Pirin European Supermarket for many years and have given them my business time and time again. I never imagined I’d be treated this poorly, but my recent visit left me absolutely disgusted and appalled.
During my last trip, my 5-year-old daughter picked up a chocolate bar to bring to me. It simply snapped in half — still sealed, totally fine — and the sales lady immediately began complaining that no one would buy it now. I calmly said I would purchase it myself, thinking that would resolve the issue.
Instead, as I laid down over $120 worth of groceries at the counter, she continued yelling, making racially offensive facial expressions, and said I shouldn't let my daughter walk freely in the store — that I must hold her hand in their tiny 200-square-foot space. Apparently, I made the mistake of feeling comfortable there — trusting that it was a safe place for my daughter to walk around and pick out a treat.
My daughter was so shaken by this woman’s behavior that she ran to the aisle behind me and stood there trembling until we finally left. No child should ever feel scared in a grocery store — and no parent should be treated with this level of disrespect and racism, especially after years of loyalty.
This was not an isolated issue. Over the years, I’ve returned multiple products to Pirin because they were visibly moldy. Their shelves are often stocked with expired groceries, including dairy and meat products. Even worse, they have a sign posted on the wall claiming that expired food is still safe to eat — something that is not only false, but a serious health risk.
Pirin European Supermarket is a place of unsanitary conditions, discriminatory treatment, and a complete lack of basic decency. This business should be investigated and shut down before someone gets seriously ill — or treated even worse than we were.
Please, protect your health, your dignity, and your loved ones. Stay far away from this disgraceful establishment.
If could I would leave negative stars! I will report this place to health department and...
Read moreThis was my first and last time to order food from that store. Two big mistakes in only one order of a few items! First they shipped a wrong item. Instead of mini cakes, they sent me mini croissants, which is not what I wanted and it is cheaper and lighter item. Second, regarding a different item, I ordered soft cheese, " Kajmak". They shipped it without any ice pack and I received it all melted and watery, not good for consummation. The cheese has been without refrigeration for more than 24 hours! I emailed the store and complained, and their response was rude, saying that the cheese was frozen and I was only two hours away. According to Google maps I maybe two hours away, but sipping takes more than 24 hours and the result was horrible. Regarding the wring item, they did not offer to ship the correct one. Instead, they said " if you want to keep it (the wrong item), we will give you $1 refund" Every professional business with good customer service would have shipped the correct item by now with an apology, and the products which need refrigeration would have been shipped properly...
Read moreThis place is a gem! We visited for the first time and were just overwhelmed with the selection and unique foods! We were so surprised at the great prices as well. Having visited a lot of "sections" of stores such as Wegman's, or "produce" market stores for their small selections of European foods and seeing the high prices, this place is a major break from that! I think the prices were awesome, the selection is HUGE and the woman at the counter was SO helpful in selecting Russian Christmas gifts for my son when I asked for help. The Amish Kefir in the fridge is incredible and far cheaper than our local healthfood store here. Skip the big supermarkets for these specialty items and support this local business! Don't miss this place when visiting the Poconos or when looking for special holiday treats! We...
