I recently visited Planet Earth Gallery in PA with my girlfriend, and while the store itself is charming—filled with cute trinkets, crystals, and handmade items, I had an unfortunate experience with the staff that left a bad taste.
We are from NYC and, on that day, were dressed in leather jackets and combat boots, which may have made us stand out. As we were browsing, I was admiring the terrariums and was considering purchasing several. I walked into the adjacent room where they sell handmade books and an older female staff member approached me and accused me of putting a book in my pocket. I was confused, so I immediately emptied my pockets to show that I only had my phone and keys. She nervously apologized, claiming it was a mistake, and that her boss is constantly monitoring the cameras due to theft.
I understand the need for security, but I felt unjustly accused. If you’re not sure, maybe consider improving your camera system rather than jumping to conclusions. It’s disheartening to be treated with suspicion, and it made me question whether our appearance—dressed in a way that doesn’t fit the local look, or me being BLACK had anything to do with the interaction.
I was respectful and explained that I felt offended, but the staff member only became more nervous and distant. My girlfriend and I decided to leave, which was disappointing because we had been genuinely interested in purchasing several items.
For fellow minority tourists, I want to caution you that you may be watched closely and treated with suspicion here. It's a shame because the store has potential, but I won't be returning after this experience.
And we were the only 2 customers in the store on a...
Read moreI have been here several times over several years and they always, always have what I am looking for. Today, I had such a great experience getting a cage pendant and cord for polished stones that I got out to my car, thought of a friend, and immediately just had to go back in! Years ago, I had picked up a crystal for when I was a caregiver facing trauma. Even then, the experience of choosing a stone and remembering the thoughts of positivity, kindness, and encouragement from those around me got me through some really rough times, regardless of my uncertainty that the stone would work. Today, I am at a different, even more secure place in my spirituality, but the atmosphere here is still the same, a positive place that feels like a spiritual safe haven for me. For myself today, and for a friend, a friendly associate helped me choose the perfect crystals and gave me so many affordable options. For my friend, I know that the crystals and the meaning behind them will be well received and I am so grateful for the positivity that I am able...
Read moreMy crystals were thrown out by mistake by a friend. So I was a natural basketcase. I needed to replace them. The person who threw them out gave me money to do so. I looked for a place that sold them close by. That's how I found Planet Earth. I called to make sure they were open & where they were. The woman I spoke with was very nice & answered my questions. The next day I made the trip to Planet Earth. When I walked in I got such an energy rush. I was feeling off from the past few days. But not after I stepped foot in there. I asked about crystals & she showed me some then showed me some more. They were tumbled. All different prices. I had to smile. I searched for what I wanted & after I was done I looked for one to put on my necklace. After that I payed for my items & left. I felt like a weight was lifted off. Needless to say.....I will be back. I highly reccomended it. Price ranges fit anyones pocket....
