I am rating this 3 stars, which is "fine." Maybe corporate not wanting to buy more stock, or maybe problems with manufacturing and shipping from abroad, etc.... ceramic or porcelain tile availability was rather limited in 18x18 size. My order is yet to be delivered to the store after two weeks, and it is only coming from Georgia. (Not enough stock in store.)
We simply wanted to buy inexpensive, (but at least PEI 2 or better), 18x18" floor tile, and couldn't care less if it was rectified or not. We were trying to spend around $1 or so per sq ft., and did not want to exceed $1.30 since it was a spare bedroom and not a high traffic, rough usage, nor high visibility area.
Our installer whom we trust, can work with all sizes and types including mismatched sizes and other variations cheap tile has, so I was not worried too much about product, so long as it was at least moderately durable enough to use for a spare bedroom, i.e., PEI 2 or better.
We had luck with an inexpensive tile called "Huesca" which comes in several beige and brown tones when I tiled 3 bedrooms a few years back. It was from Peru back then, and sold in a large tile store since out of business for $1.00 per tile. So, Floor & Decor's website price was right on the money. However, when I arrived at the store a couple of weeks ago, they had limited stock of 18x18 tile, and no "Huesca" except a bit in Texas or somewhere as I remember, though it was shown on the website when I did a search. The cheap tile they did have in stock was the right size but I was warned it might chip if something heavy dropped on it. I believed the young man, who seemed to be bright and capable; even though the price was tempting. So, I had to go with a different color than I hoped for and a slightly higher price than planned. Basically, I had no choice really, given the price, size, availability and whether the size and color would complement the tile adjacent to where it was being installed. Not having a good variety of choices in the correct size, and range of color, and of course availability are the main reason I am awarding 3 stars.
I discovered that they did have a selection of 12x24 and 24x24, because that is what is mostly being used now. But think about this: if someone already has 18x18 installed in tens of thousands of homes up until recently when larger sizes came available, why would someone place larger tiles adjacent to those 18x18? It would look odd.
Anyway, I did order something a bit more expensive, but of course it had to be shipped, (the stock you see on the website may be all over the country in different warehouse locations, so be careful in your planning. time.)
In summary, I had good checkout and good sales people to help me, and the warehouse will cooperate if you have to pick up in partial loads, The store is fine, or okay, but I would not have rated it 5 stars because to be stellar, it should be expected to check all boxes for everyone, not just for one's particular project. Just because a project came out the way one wanted doesn't mean the details about the stock, delivery, selection, price and etc.... were all superlative and predictably so for every shopper. It's like, "Oh, I made the green light and I think the timing of the traffic light is super," ignoring the fact the guy behind you only had a few seconds to get through.
Floor & Decor is selling Mapei brand which is fine, but I bought a different brand of grout for another project at bid box store (a well known brand sold all over the place), and the color variation upon drying was really bad. The tile installer was stumped. Although they applied the grout correctly, it dried much darker in some areas than the sample I picked and the color I expected. They sell a product called "Renew" which is supposedly helpful to correct this grout color problem. Muriatic acid did not work. My installer will choose and bring the adhesive but Floor & Decor has good adhesive for a...
Read moreJust like to start by saying that my first trip in was great. Picked out the tile I liked, no problems. My second trip in was far from what I would call pleasant. I went in to purchase grout. According to the website the specific amount I needed they had in stalk. Get there to purchase and can only find 3 bags of what I need. Wandered around the store looking for someone to help me, unsuccessfully. Finally ran into someone on a fort lift who called for someone to help. A young man came, I explained what I wanted and was told it was too much. After using a grout calculator and getting confirmation from my tile guy (who has been physically applying grout for over 30 years) I was told there’s no need for that amount. I was then told I wanted to go with something completely different then what I said I needed. He got a manager to come over after “failing” to find the “missing pallet” of grout and she said the same.
Now, after working in customer service for 20 years I realize inventories are off, no big deal. I received the same service at the Boynton Beach location after being told and confirming there was more than enough of what I needed down there.
The lovely man at Lowe’s who was more than happy to help me get everything I needed couldn’t stop laughing as I told him about my ordeal. Needless to say, the 4 bags I did buy will be returned and I will not do business there again. It’s so nice to know that Floor & Decor is doing so well in this day an age that they can pick and choose who they want to do business with.
At the end of the day i did need the amount I specified needing. Your people need to realize that just because you “sell” grout doesn’t mean you know better what someone needs when they tell you they need a specific number...
Read moreSad to say, I originally gave this place a 4 star review because of their options and pricing, however here I am changing it to one star due to a very poor customer service experience. I went to this store over a year ago and had an employee help me choose floors, she told me exactly what I would need based on my square footage and calculated waste and said I can return what I don't use, and I ordered it. The delivery was fine and it took me a year to do my house, since I'm no professional. Here I am at the end of my project and tried to return the 17 boxes unopened (over $1000) and was told I can't. I was given a number to call to see if they can help but they basically said I had to submit a dispute, she supposedly sent me an email to do so which I never got. I finally contacted customer service myself via email and they replied "sorry we cannot override the stores decision, have a great day". I find it very upsetting that no one would even listen to me or even try to help after spending thousands of dollars at your company. I am very big on customer service and would definitely be taking my business elsewhere. For such a large company, this is no way to treat customers. And to be clear this item is not discontinued and is still available to buy at this store. Your policy states it's up to your discretion to return after 90 days with store credit, which is all I was requesting. Please be aware, if it's past 90 days they will deny your return and you will be stuck with extra materials, which in this case was what their employee recommended I needed...
