So when I critique a restaurant I use three criteria. Quality, Quantity, and Quickness. Luso's Portuguese Grill in my opinion gets an A minus.
I ordered the Shrimp Scampi for lunch. It consists of pan seared Gulf shrimp over linguini pasta & garlic wine lobster stock (sauce).
At the time of this writing, it was $24 and in my opinion a fair price to pay for a descent meal of this nature. I've traveled all over the world and in this country and dined at many restaurants of this type of cuisine and have paid more.
The quality of my lunch was excellent. The sauce is like I've never experienced..very flavorful. My linguini was cooked to perfection, not al-dente, just perfect and tender. The large jumbo shrimp was pan seared to completion and had no fishy taste at all and the meat was tender and succulent. They are shelled and of coarse and you have to cut off the tails.
One issue I had and hence why I gave this restaurant an A minus instead of an A, is the fact my ice water/ice cubes had a very metal "pipe" taste. I did address this issue to my waiter and he tried to rectify the issue with another ice water with more lemons, but to no avail- wasn't his fault what so ever. Next time, I will simply order the house wine.
Which leads to my next criteria...Quickness. My server, a handsome, young man named Estaban, was very attentive and I did get a sense he tried everything in his power to correct my bad tasting ice water issue. He checked back with me periodically to see how my meal was and was very friendly. Additionally, when I first walked into the establishment, he was very knowledegable about the available menu selections.
Although if the owner or manager is reading this review, may I suggest your wait staff be discreet in handling and taking out the restaurant's trash with their bare hands in plain view of the customers. I was seated outside on the patio and noticed my waiter wore no gloves when carrying out the trash. I'm assuming he thoroughly washed his hands afterwards.
Lastly, Quantity. This establishment no doubt is very generous with their portions. I was stuffed! My shrimp scampi had 6 large jumbo shrimp. The linguini pasta satisfied my tummy. I almost requested a take home box. Even though I didn't have any dessert, the cold dessert dishes looked very plentiful as well.
Overall, I was very pleased with this restaurant. I will tell my family and friends about this place and I will definitely be returning. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for Portuguese cuisine here in Port St....
Read moreWe’ve known and loved this Portuguese restaurant for many years. Especially for their amazing fresh garlic rolls with herbs and spices — they were the signature of the place. We kept coming back just for them. The open kitchen inspired trust, the atmosphere was cozy, and the interior reminded us of Porto. The staff was always warm and friendly — they recognized us, and we felt at home.
After COVID, things changed. The rolls disappeared, portions got smaller, furniture was replaced. The place lost its charm and turned into an ordinary cafeteria. At that point, we decided it would be our last visit.
Recently, we found out the restaurant had moved to a new location and decided to give it another chance — it was my husband’s birthday. We made a reservation and noted the special occasion — because it’s always nice when a restaurant team acknowledges it, sings Happy Birthday, and offers a complimentary dessert, as many good places do.
It all started off fine. We ordered an appetizer, and the waitress suggested a “special” fish dish for the main course. We agreed, not asking the price — we trusted them, as we always had. But when the bill came, we were shocked. The “special” was a thin, bony fish, soaked in some dark greasy sauce — and it cost $45! That dish was absolutely not worth the price. If you’re offering a special, please state the price upfront. Had we known, we never would have ordered it — it’s way outside of our family budget. And to make things worse, the bill had an error — we were overcharged by a few dollars. A small thing, but deeply unpleasant.
The desserts were another disappointment. We ordered a traditional Portuguese dessert, shown as a plate of four in the photo — but the actual portion was only two pieces. And for the high price, it didn’t even taste authentic. It felt like something bought at Costco and reheated.
But the most upsetting part — no one acknowledged my husband’s birthday. Not even a word. We mentioned it in the reservation, expecting at least a simple “happy birthday.” Nothing.
A truly disappointing experience. Sad, frustrating, and nothing like what we used to love. We won’t be coming back. This left a very...

Visited Luso’s Portuguese Grille for Dinner with group of five to celebrate one of our friend getting married. Small and private little restaurant tucked away in a small shopping center. With the murals on its walls and wrought iron light fixtures hanging from ceiling has an authentic Portuguese ambience feel. It can be busy at times so would recommend reservations. Food is Portuguese or Mozambique style with a hint of Brazil.
Our waitress Karine was a total delight being very attentive without being fussy. With a large smile and twinkle in her eye she explained the menu, made suggestions and answered any questions. Jonathon, the Chief stop by our table to ask how we were doing, how was the food and any suggestions. They made you feel as if you eating at a friends house.
What can I say about the food. The feeling among our group was that it was very fresh and from the meat dishes to the fish to desert all was fantastic.
It started at the beginning with fresh, hot, and tasty bread. Then it got better from Starters: P.E.I Mussels -Petingas Fritas ( baby sardines escabeche ) to Entrees: Bacalhau 'A Porto (Broiled Cod Fish)-Iberian Salmon-Polvo Lagareiro (Spanish Octopus)- Bife 'A Portuguesa (Portuguese Steak ) to Desserts: Pasteis de Natas-Delicias de Amêndoa-Tiramisu
My wife and I had Pasteis de Tentugal, The Pastel of Tentúgal is regarded as one of the seven iconic dishes of Portuguese cuisine and originated in the Convent of Our Lady of the Nativity by the hands of the sisters of the Carmelite Order who lived there between 1565 and 1898. It tasted the same as the ones we had in Lisbon.
A great place to meet family, friends, or even for a business lunch. Highly recommended. We...
