This review is for the Culebra Excursion as a scuba diver. This negative review is mostly against Capt. Nelson, but also to call out some issues with Aqua Adventure's business practices, lack of customer service, and the experience overall. There is no bathroom on the boat, and they had it crowded full of both divers and snorkelers. Wetsuits are not included in the "full rental gear" package, and you don't find this out until you are on the boat. The rest of the rental gear is in pretty bad condition. Aqua Adventures treats its customers with a “Take it or Leave it” attitude. This time I took it, and I strongly advise other divers to leave it.
#1: Poor equipment maintenance. I expect rental gear to show some wear and tear, but to be safe and functional. There was no fit check for gear prior to boarding the boat. I observed the staff performing gear inspections after the vessel was underway. Additional gear failures were discovered during the first dive, when two divers had to terminate their dives early due to faulty rental BCDs, and another due to broken rental fins.
#2: Rude and unprofessional staff. There were 3 staff onboard: Sayeed, Antonio, and Capt. Nelson. Sayeed and Antonio were both polite and professional. The positive attitude that they maintained while dealing with such a negative Captain is the only reason I give 2 stars. Capt. Nelson thought he was funny, but I observed him making rude comments to customers. At the end of the trip, Capt. Nelson asked that we leave a review on Trip Advisor. He specifically asked that if it was a 5 star review, to give the credit to Capt. Nelson and AquaAdventures, but if it was less than 5 stars, to say he was someone else from SeaVentures (a competitor dive agency). In retrospect, I wish I had booked with SeaVentures instead.
#3: Dishonesty, false advertising, and poor communication. The rental contract states “Full rental equipment (Includes everything needed to Dive)” provided. No wetsuits were provided. Communication and customer service leading up to the trip was generally poor and a little bit rude.
The invoice states that we paid for: 2 tank dive, 9 am to 4 pm. What we got was two quick 30 minute dives, and headed back to the docks at 1:25 pm, arriving at 2:39 pm. Divers still had 1500-2000 PSI left in their tanks on the second dive. The weather and conditions were beautiful and amazing. No explanation or apology was given. The entire experience felt rushed and...
Read moreThe worst tour I ever had. The small boat doesn’t have a restroom and is very bumpy that makes a lot of people Sea sick. My mom felt very sick and threw up. Instead of caring about her feelings and well-being, the tour people insisted that she should be sitting on the boarding steps which is slippery and no protection with water splashing constantly. I said I gave my mom a vomit bag so that she won’t throw up on your board and it’s not safe sitting on the steps. They never cared to listen and kept pushing us verbally.
At the first stop, I was asking how to wear the life jacket which is not a secured one that you would expect to see at most of other places. It’s an inflated one I had never used. I was told to wait. But after some check-ins and until the end of the activities, nobody came to help. I tried my best to help my mom and myself to put it on, but when we got into the water. It kept sliding up to the neck and almost falling off. We can’t follow the group and the waves brought us to another direction. Nobody noticed us until I shouted to the boat. They throw a life ring to us and blamed us for swimming that way. By joining this tour, you are on your own and would risk your time and life for nothing. I would highly suggest choosing a more professional tour group that cares your safety and truly knows what...
Read moreAmazing experience, can't wait to return. I really appreciated how organized and communicative the whole process was. Very clear instructions on where to meet and what to bring. We did the full day trip in a group of 10. You can either scuba, SNUBA or snorkel, or a combination in the morning/afternoon. I loved how flexible they were, I am scuba certified and my husband is not, and they have an instructor/lead for each group. They took us to one island in the morning with a beautiful beach, we had lunch on the boat and then they took us to another island with the most amazing scuba 60 feet of clear water. The divemaster- Machete was incredibly experienced and a great teacher. I was the least experienced out of a scuba group of 7 and he made sure that I felt comfortable every step of the way. We did the proper partner descent and ascend together. All the instructors were extremely professional and skilled, Captain Mike was super fun and friendly. Literally an unforgettable memory and we will be doing this trip every time we visit PR. will post...
