This could be the perfect handyman’s paradise if only so much of the merchandise weren’t sitting unlabeled with no prices on it and no help to be found. I went here for the first time ever the other day after not finding what I needed across the street at TSC. My first impression was great, as I was looking for hydraulic hoses and connectors for my compact tractor, and right outside the door there was a nice compact tractor for sale next to a beautiful grapple tractor implement that I was very interested in, except that the specs and price of the grapple were nowhere to be found at all. I went inside and was blown away by the sheer size of the store, which looked clean and inviting, with what appeared to be a wide variety of merchandise.
Then I started looking for what I needed. Not only were there no signs I could find indicating the presence of any hydraulic hoses, fittings, implements, or couplers, but there wasn’t a single employee in sight who wasn’t sort of busy apparently going through the motions of doing something without much enthusiasm or interest. Not one employee I walked by even showed any hint that they saw me, let alone offered to help me or even looked like I could interrupt whatever they were doing to ask for directions. I kept going, feeling like I was getting closer and closer as I saw tools, tires, and then oil and filters and similar things for cars, until I finally found a single hydraulic supply aisle with about twice as much in stock as at the TSC I had just left, but it looked like it had been ransacked by vandals who just threw parts back onto the shelves and left many containers open and some spots missing the merchandise they apparently held. I saw another small attachment I thought would be handy for my tractor, but although there were two of them in the aisle, neither had any label or price tag anywhere on it, and there was no label with that information anywhere near the items on the shelves, so again I left it, not being willing to bring it from the farthest corner of the store all the way to the checkout line just to find out its price.
Ultimately, I left with two hoses that were longer than I had hoped to find and didn’t look as robust as the ones sold at TSC and elsewhere, but seemed like they would work where I needed them, along with a small variety of connectors I purchased in the hopes that some of them might be useful to my application, despite the disorganization of their layout and my uncertainty that the contents of the packages I had were really what the label said, since so many of them had been opened and replaced, with some clearly put back in the wrong place.
The best part of the experience was the checkout, as the cashier was kind and pleasant, and rang me up quickly and efficiently. I walked by the grapple again on my way out, wondering if I had missed something where maybe such items were stocked outside, but all I could see in the lot outside were rows and rows of empty pallets, with no indication that there was anything for sale there.
To be fair, this was on a Sunday early afternoon, so it may well be that shoppers had left things in disarray and that the store was understaffed for some reason that would be remedied the next day, but I doubt I’ll ever find out, because the store is far enough away to make it an uncomfortable drive for me, and it’s not worth the uncertainty that I’ll even have a fun browsing experience, as it really kills any sense of interest or excitement at seeing a nice compact tractor right by the door only to find very little tractor-related inventory and a messy disorganized aisle with a widespread lack of price information available anywhere to be seen. With a bit more staff, some care in stocking and labeling inventory, and with store management making a concerted effort to improve customer experiences and the willingness of staff members to offer help, this store could be a homeowner’s or handyman’s dream destination shopping center, but as it was when I found it, there was some significant room for improvement in a...
Read more3 years ago I shared a positive review when the store was fairly new to our area. Today I am amending my review from 4 stars to 1. I have been a regular customer there since they opened but today they will be only a last resort store for me. The reason for my downgrade is that on many occasions. I have caught their pricing on the shelf to not match what comes up at the register. The last time I went in? I purchased a 2' aluminum step ladder marked $45.99 and two PFDs for my boat marked on sale for $7.99, down from $9.99. The ladder rang up for $49.99 and the PFDs for $9.99. It took over 10 minutes for two different persons to verify that was correct and adjust the price in the form of a credit to my card. The cashier said they must have not updated the ladder bin tag and the sale price ad card for the PFDs should have been removed. Today I went back for two more PFDs and found the same sale tag (No expiration date was on the card btw) at $7.99 each). Once again they rang up for $9.99, but I asked before finalizing the sale (there's no customer screen to view during checkout to catch it as it happens). And this time I had taken a photo of the sale tag next to the regular price tag. This time the cashier told me it's a different sku code. So I told her they're all the same PFDs in a single bin but she said I had to go get someone to give me ones with the same code. I was not about to go for another hike to the back of the store and waste more of my time on their mistake. So I told her I would pass and walked out. She didnt even offer an apology. This has happened multiple times over the years prior to these examples, so I've had enough. I like the store offerings but these endless pricing issues cause me more time and aggravation than I want to invest in something that shouldn't keep happening. Runnings, you really need to clean up your management act. Not to mention having your staff ask to help customers instead of looking away and talking to each other using foul language. Today it was one dropping F bombs while talking to another. Since they don't go out of the way to help customers they should have time to update price signs and labels that reflect what comes up at...
Read moreFirst time visiting a Runnings last night. The store is enormous and clean. I head to the checkout (after the closing in 30 minutes announcement) the cashier was a young, tallish, freckled girl who began a conversation with another employee in line behind me regarding a group of teenagers from her school in the parking lot doing donuts (or more specifically donut, "just one") sort of rude to talk around your customer, but not a huge deal. She begins checking me out, has an issue when I ask for a price on moleskin, and accidentally clears my order, needs to rescan everything, ok no biggie AGAIN. Then we get to the 2 4x8 rubber mats I painstakingly loaded myself (HEAVY). No tags labels etc, she calls another associate for the price, puts the UPC in and they're the wrong price, nearly DOUBLE the price listed on the display. I tell her no the display price is 44.99. The items are in a large gaylord by the restrooms. She calls again, AGAIN she is given an incorrect UPC. I ask if the employee she is calling went to the location I provided, she states I assume so. When I dig in and say the listed price was 44.99 she states " Why don't you go to the location since your the only one who knows where it is and get the price" My face likely spoke volumes because the employee who was in line behind me speaks up and begins to provide ACTUAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. She offers to go with me, coaches the cashier as to how to suspend a transaction etc. We go to the EXACT location I provided to begin with and lo and behold - 44.99. We walk back to the cashier (line is now 6 people long) the associate attempts to coach the cashier again - pull up the suspended order etc. Order was NOT suspended... Cashier needed to ring my items up again and was huffy the entire time. The employee who provided the ACTUAL Customer service was great - mature blond woman. She needs to be recognized, because I 100% would have walked out without purchasing a single item and never returned. Not sure who manages the front end staff but you have ALOT...
