Ah Stop & Shop. Listen, if you want the best grocery store produce - this is the place I go. They don't have a n out of this world selection or anything, but they do a good job of making sure the produce that is out there is fresh. Is it the best prices in the universe? No. But it's fresh, and that's important.
The rest of the store is fine, your standard grocery store. I'd say definitely on the pricey side, but not insanely so.
The thing that drives me insane with this store is the digital coupons. There's no way my grandmother would have any idea how to use these coupons. I can't imagine how many elderly people they dupe into buying their products thinking they're getting the posted price and then who just pay the non-couponed price because they can't figure out what happened. I know they're saving paper or something, or trying to teach us to use the app. But it's a poorly-executed mess, and has been for years now. If you're not in the right store in the app, the coupon won't work. If you clip the coupon too soon before you checkout, it won't work. To find the coupon on the app is a chore itself. You spend half your time that you should be shopping instead scrolling through their app trying to find the dang things.
If you complain, they tell you they'll give you the coupon price. But now you have to keep track of all these coupon prices, hold up the line, and you feel like a big jerk. I mean, it's just uncomfortable.
But at the end of the day, they haven't changed it, even though all the employees all say they know the digital coupons are terrible.
On top of that, I will say this store has the highest frequency of mis-priced items. That is places where they forget to take the sale prices down or something. So you go to check out and the price is way different than the sale price. So now I have to take pictures of everything I buy that's on sale when I go through the store so I can show the cashier that it was priced wrong. They usually will fix the price no problem, but if I'm really annoyed with them I'll remind them of the CT law that they actually have to give you the item for free. They always act a little grumpy about it, but they honor it.
So this isn't the place to shop if you care about deals or accurate pricing. But if you just want the freshest grocery store produce, well then they're worth stopping in and...
Read moreOnline ordering at Stop & Shop in Putnam Connecticut is not secure! I was not able to go into the store so I ordered online. I arrived at the scheduled time and texted them to let them know I was here. I received several text saying my order was on the way out. I spoke to an associate and she said my order will be out shortly. Over an hour later, I called the store and was told my order was fourth in line, so I waited longer. A manager and another associate came out and then told me my order had been canceled. That a man with a foreign accent had called and canceled the order. They told me they took it as fraud and the order was canceled and apologized. I drove off with no groceries, I called the store manager to ask him what happened and he was less than helpful as he would not give me any information about the man who called because it was “personal information“. Over a week I spent on the phone calling Stop & Shop and was told I was going to be given a refund as my card was charged, I was supposed to be getting a refund. We’re going on two weeks and I still don’t have any money. I was told by corporate customer service that I would have a refund within 24 to 48 hours that was five days ago. They have some fraudulent stuff going on with their systems. Do not use your credit card whatsoever, they will not believe you and they treat you like you try to fraud them. Horrible customer service do not use the online ordering service.
Update 5 weeks later… I still don’t have my refund for the money they took. My bank is involved and I’m getting no...
Read moreI went in to stop & shop, and I noticed a robot that I thought was a floor cleaning machine. This robot named " Marty" is a security/surveillance robot. It drives around with little cameras all over it looking for" security" issues. We have enough cameras on us day, to day we don't need the little robot patrolling around watching everything, that's what the cameras all over the store are for. Stop & shop should have done the right thing, saved probably over $40000 and put it towards a real life employee, a real person can see threats, far faster than any robot. I do not feel safer with a robot. A real person has the ability to detect subtle hints that a robot never will. A real employee , also would take that money and pay for their home, family, and pay taxes. That would actually help contribute to the economy, and society.
I will not be going to this store any longer due to this robot, I will take my money to shops that hire people, that can actually contribute to society.
It is too bad, the gentleman with the beard working at the seafood counter was extremely helpful, the cashier was very kind, there are very good employees at this store. I wish they had hired another real person, instead of buying this obnoxious robot. if not for "Marty" I would be back buying seafood, and meats. Instead I will be going to a different market for...
