High Mark Distillery & Barrel House — Local services in Reno

My dad was visiting from out of town Memorial Day weekend and we decided to do our own local distillery tour. High Mark was stop #3, and we definitely saved the best for last!!

Jacob was our server, and even though it was a Saturday afternoon, we were his only customers so we got super personalized and attentive service. And something tells me that even if it had been busy, Jacob would have been a pro either way! Jacob’s passion and knowledge of High Mark spirits, as well as spirits in general, was so apparent. We genuinely enjoyed the tasting, the conversation, and Jacob’s exceptional contribution to the experience.

Each spirit is tasty and unique, with their whiskeys and bourbons able to hold their own against the best, and well known, national competitors. My favorite was their maple pecan whiskey (no artificial flavors!) and my dad’s favorite was the cask strength single barrel bourbon. We came home with a bottle of each!

This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the High Mark Distillery recipe old fashioned cocktails we enjoyed as well. The owner, Felicia Keith-Jones Is the most interesting woman in the world. Not only is she knowledgeable about all things bourbon and whiskey, but she is personable and very entertaining. If you have ever thought of making your own spirits, this is your place. Felicia will walk you through all of the steps. We have been making our own bourbon and whiskey now for going on three years and we have never had so much fun. This is a great place to bring your out-of-town guests, neighbors, friends, or whoever you want to bring because it is truly a one of a kind experience. If making your own bourbon and or whiskey is a little more than you want to do, Felicia offers cocktail making classes on the weekends and your admission ticket includes a cocktail and a bottle of the spirits you make to take home with you. Felicia, our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, made the experience even more enjoyable.
