This is just to share my honest experience with NHS Reno. Nevada Humane Society in Reno is useful for vaccinations, however I would not recommend going there for your pets neutering or spaying. I would really recommend taking your pet somewhere else.
Neutering and Spaying are fairly common procedures, but from time to time there are complications that come up. These complications can be serious and you will need to go back for a follow-up. But for these issues dealing with NHS in Reno was a nightmare for me. My cat showed symptoms THEY mentioned I should watch out for and since my pet means the world to me, I was very scared as hell. I tried calling them but as usual they never pick up even at the clinic number that they have specifically told me to call for any issues (As per the After-care document). But I can understand that they might be busy so I waited. When they ended up calling me (at around 5:30pm) , they asked me about his symptoms and told me I need to go to emergency care.
Firstly, you guys should let people know that you are just going to tell everyone who's pets are suffering after neutering that you wont really help with any complications and we would just need to go to emergency care. I would have taken him to a different Vet clinic if I knew about the way you act if a complication would occur. During this time of Covid alot of people have lost their jobs and going to an emergency care might not be a option for many due to expenses, hence we bring our pets to you in the first place. But going to a vet who is professional enough to offer after care to my pet who is not well would have been a better idea from the start.
What is more upsetting is that the first time I had called and said that my pets is lethargic and depressed and his stomach is not doing to well and his appetite is low, they told me that its not because of the neutering so I need to go to an emergency clinic. My pet was absolutely fine before getting neutered, now he is sick 3 days after, and the signs I had mentioned was exactly what you said to look for in the After-care document they provided.
The second time I called hoping to speak with someone different, he told me the same thing even though I called during regular hours and I just wanted to get my pet checked. Now I asked if I could get some nausea or pain meds cause my pet is not feeling well, he just told me they dont make appointments like that and I should go to emergency care.
Complications are serious and need to be checked. This place is not helpful with that even during their regular business hours. You guys should let people know that you are so extremely busy that you wont have time to really take of any complications if...
Read moreI found a cat (maybe 3 months old) and took her in after a month of careful quarantine she seemed healthy after discussing we decided to keep the poor thing. I heard that the humane society gives low cost spaying to rescue cats. I called and double checked, they said I would have to pay because I don't plan to release her back out. I didn't mind at all, at the desk the day of her surgery they told me in order to be seen by the vets after her surgery for any complications I must have her vaccinated and buy the cone of shame. Of course I agreed because 1) she needed vaccinations anyways and 2) it covers me for any issues.
After her spay I pick her up and noticed a detectable odor. Once I get her home I noticed that she was covered in her own feces. It was so bad I had to cut it out of her hair, meaning she was sitting in her own feces for over 2 hours. I was mad but decided to watch her closely instead of calling and screaming at their voicemail as they don't answer their phones. She was fine the first few days she had slight diarrhea but it seemed to be firming up. On day 5 and 6 we noticed she has stopped eating almost completely and is now urinating on herself and having black tar like feces. We called and made a rushed appointment. At the appointment I was told because she wasn't feral i shouldn't of brought her to the humane society or gotten her fixed there in the first place. I stated that the front desk told me differently and I ensured I took the proper steps to make sure she is covered for after surgery complications. They stated that she was covered in diarrhea after her first appointment from the car ride. I ensured them I dropped her off with no incident and picked her up smelling awful. The whole appointment was me having to prove I found her and that the black diarrhea was not a previous condition. They stated she was fine but put her on anti nausea meds and probiotics and iv fluids. They sent me home with medication to go in her food. While I appreciate the take home meds but the cat is refusing to eat which is why I was there.. the whole appointment was scolding me for coming there and telling me to go to another vet. While in the room we heard staff cussing and telling at each other about stupid customers and talking about us behind our backs. I have adopted from humane society before but will go to Carson or aspca since there is no obvious care for rescues unless I pay them to give me an animal. We plan to take her to a real vet to actually get help and not being told we...
Read moreThe Front line help was an injustice to some of us that can't afford $500 for tests, blood work, etc, x-rays. I surrendered my rights so my dog could get the best treatment and make professional decisions for my Jenson. She was having increasingly bad seizures. It went on for 3 years off an on. I personally didn't have the ability to put her down from the beginning. I originally dropped her at the Humane Society and claimed I found her. I already feel shamed because of making that decision. Casey said they would have worked with me if truth be known from the start. Every phone conversation ended with me upset and crying because of how this young girl shamed me. Not knowing my personal heartaches. I lost my son and recently my husband. He had Jenson in which I adopted her. 2 years I gave her best life I could. But On Disability low income. Jenson was best dog ever. My bestfriend my furry friend. I followed up to check on Jenson status. Casey said well you lost all rights by signing her to us. Really!!!! I said she is a heartless person. Deserves no rights to work in a Humane Society when she has no idea about being Humane herself or needs to be empathetic and understanding and helpful. So how would they have helped me or work with me I ask. How? I asked that question several times. So how can you help me and my baby Jenson part Shar-Pei and Crocker Spaniel. I provided Neuro-plex an seizures med and CBD occasionally. My understanding is there is no cure for Seizures. Losing Jenson is a incredibly great loss. My fury girl was only 5 years old. But not knowing her fate has set me back 10 fold. Surviving another loss is difficult. But I'm left in limbo now.. which is worse than making a Euthanasia decision. I didn't want her to suffer. Seizures caused blindness and memory loss. This girl working at window as a representative makes me want to die. Suicide watch therapy needed again.Bad people are mouth breathers. She will experience Karma...what goes around comes around. Bullying people is unexceptable by anyone...no matter what your position or...
