Our family has lived in the Springfield area for 11 years. We moved to Republic 3 years ago and I was elated to discover that I didnāt have to drive to Springfield to shop ALDI. However, with my experience with the Republic ALDI manager this afternoon, Iām rethinking my grocery shopping options. To give a summary of the back story from several months ago, I had what I thought was a misunderstanding with the manager whose name I canāt remember. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and attempted to talk to him about our cultural differences and how I felt disrespected by him saying, āMaāam, look at meā multiple times. As a Nigerian who was raised in Nigeria, everything about the way he addressed me was disrespectful and I explained this to him. He was initially defensive but eventually apologized and asked to start over. I also shared with him that there are a few other Nigerians in the area who Iām aware come to this ALDI and he needs to be culturally aware.
I hadnāt seen him ever since but this afternoon, I ran into him and my natural instinct was to smile and say hello, but I quickly realized that he did not recognize me, so I asked if he remembered me. His response was, āIām a busy person, I meet a lot of peopleā while he kept moving. So, I went back to remind him and said, I assumed we were friends after working through our cultural differences several months ago but Iām taken aback seeing that he couldnāt pause for a moment to respond to my greeting. His response again was, āI guess when Iām not working here anymore, I can hang outā while he continued moving. I assumed part of the job is customer service and store associates and managers are encouraged to be nice to customers. He just dismissed me and I was shocked. I usually give the benefit of the doubt until a person proves to me that they in fact, do not care. There arenāt many Africans in the area, so when I enter a place, Iām constantly looking to feel safe and welcome, which Iāve now found isnāt the Republic ALDI.
Not sure anything will be done to address this managerās behavior but for whatever it is worth, Iām putting...

We love their produce and it's much better than the local competitors in both quality and price. My wife follows an Aldi Facebook page and watches for temporary or seasonal bargains as well as reviews on the items. A few finds that we enjoy- The little tub of chicken salad- so good The coconut cookies- yes please! Seasoned pork loins- great for the crockpot Seedless grapes- better than other stores Eggs- can't beat the price 9 grain wheat bread- great Family size bag Ceasar salad- very good Small 3oz cans of dog food- our dogs love it
That's just a few of our faves. Aldi also has the best grocery sacker I have ever seen. He's awesome. Ok, it's me. They are self sack method. š

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been going to the store for years, but never had a problem. Went there today And went to check out and simply Said the word cashier in a regular speaking voice, hoping one could hear me. This cashier Came out of the bathroom, rude as hell accusing me of screaming, and why didnāt I go to the self check out? When I said as a union employee I refuse To use those things, I was berated about being left in the past. I finally told her she can stop being a smart ass at any time, I would like to pay for my stuff and go, and she went in the office and got her manager. He came out with an attitude and threatened to call the cops For cursing out his employees lol And then I was followed out of the store like I stole something. Going down through the reviews, I see this wasnāt the first problem with this particular employee...
