As soon as the sun rose on Friday morning of 4th of July weekend this year, I was calling every transmission shop within an hour of where I broke down on the highway. Finally, after a ton of phone calls and desperate beginning, someone referred me to Monroeville Transmission & Clutch and said that they would probably try the hardest to get my car up and running in the same day and for a great price. Monroeville Transmission & Clutch did not disappoint. When I called them, the guy I spoke to explained that they would need to see my car in person before they could guarantee that they had all the parts to fix it, but based on my description, they believed they had the parts and they promised they would try their best to get my car fixed by the end of the day. The man sounded sincere, so I had my car towed 30 miles to the shop. When I got there, they were extremely helpful and informative. The quote was very fair, they had the parts, and they seemed determined to help me get back on the road by the end of the day. I agreed to have them repair it and I am so glad I did.
They were very good about checking in with me once they had made progress and they discovered the reason my clutch went bad so fast! My car was a manual and my shifting cables were in bad shape, so sometimes I had trouble getting into the gears. It had become such an issue that I would skip 1st gear and go straight into 2nd gear when I was at stop lights and couldn’t get it to shift into 1st gear. This problem had been going on for a while, and was present when I got my car repaired with a new clutch a year and a half ago. I never thought to mention this to the staff at Monroeville, but they asked me if I had been having problems shifting into 1st gear. I told them the situation and they explained to me that this was why my clutch went bad so fast. They had removed my middle counsel and exposed the cables to show me what the underlying issue was. Of course they could have fixed my cables as well as my clutch, but then there was the risk that my repairs would go into Saturday. Since I really wanted to get back on the road Friday, I agreed to get my cables fixed once I got home and not to skip any gears (it was possible, just difficult) in the meantime. So they fixed my clutch and got me back on the road before the end of the day that Friday armed with the knowledge of my car’s true mechanical issues! I was so happy for the additional knowledge because I did not want to burn a new clutch out again and have it repaired in another year. Since then, my new clutch has run perfect and I got my cables repaired locally so there are no issues anymore. I cannot be more appreciative of the service I got from Monroeville!
Considering that I was some random person from another state, I feel like Monroeville treated me like a local and took great care of both my car and myself after I broke down. The staff was friendly and they offered to take me to the mall or a park during the time my car was in the shop, so I could go shopping or entertain myself. I was perfectly content just walking around the town (I had my dog so I figured I couldn’t go in anywhere) and studying for school for the day, but they still took the effort to call the local coffee shop and ask if I could bring my dog in (which they said ye) so I went to study at the coffee shop for the day. Once my car was done, one of the mechanics walked over to the coffee shop to get me so I get back on the road as soon as possible. I really appreciated the effort they went through to help me find something to do with my time while they worked on my car as well as all the effort they put into fixing my car by the end of the day! Originally I dreaded having to deal with a mechanic shop to have my car repaired, but this day ended up being very relaxing and stress free with the help of the staff at...
Read moreWanted to thank Ken & his technicians for doing a fine job of rebuilding my 2017 Chevy Traverse 6 speed transmission which was slipping on upshift between 2 and 3rd gears. It was barely perceptible (but I noticed it) and was concerned about pulling my 17' boat to Florida. Ken did a real thorough job of test driving and he too noticed the lazy shift. Monroeville Transmission did a good job of getting the transmission rebuilt in time for me to stay on schedule for my arrival to our second home in Englewood Florida. I'm real happy the transmission has been shifting perfectly and I've had no issues. I'd recommend having this transmission change fluid at 30,000 miles especially if they are towning! My error in not knowing that (a few years ago we were changing trans fluid at 100,000, but not anymore!) cost me $4100. However it's money well spent as my Traverse is otherwise in fine shape. Hey Ken, thanks for your good work, you've treated. me fairly and you've done a good job! I'll see you in May and you can service the transmission as you see fit. Bottom Line, Monroeville Transmission is a good place to do business! Curly...
Read moreI highly recommend Monroeville Transmission. I had them do a pre-check inspection on a 7 year old vehicle (Saturn Vue), where the CARFAX had indicated some work had been done on the transmission. Kenny and his team gave it a clean bill of health. I tried to pay but Kenny refused. Fast forward nine years and I’ve put over 120,000 miles on that vehicle and still use it every day to take my dogs to the local park. I live locally and know many of my friends who deal with Kenny and the thing we all appreciate is he doesn’t want to do work just to do work. He is honest, fare and reliable. I often see Kenny driving random cars because he personally tests the work of his team and doesn’t half-ass, take shortcuts, or do unnecessary work. If you have a transmission related issue I would definitely let Kenny and his team get their hands, ears and computers on it before you waste money on a car that won’t be worth the cost of...
