Hanyang Mart — Local services in Ridgefield

This is a smaller korean grocery store that is friendly and has some hidden gems. It has limited inventory but has a surprising variety when it comes to Korean regional food and condiments. While they do carry major brand staples that bigger korean stores carry, what they specialize seems to be more produced/made in Korea products that they rotate depending on the season. I was surprised to find some Nonghyup(fairly reliable korean farmer association brand) products that I couldn't find at bigger stores. There were quite a few choices for salt and chili powder produced in Korea. I once saw sacks of Korean salt that probably weighed 100lb each. These products appear and disappear giving shoppers a bit of small town Korean traditional 5 day market(korean traditional market that opens every five days) vibe. The fact that they sell freshly made tofu made in house along with bean curd adds to that vibe. From what I've seen so far, Prices are fair. Some things pricier, and some things are cheaper. Also there seems be a couple of korean soy sauce or fish sauce always on sale for good prices. Another plus is that people working at Hanyang are genuinely nice and want to help. It is a fun store to look and shop around. Now if they had some wooden utensils made in Korea... None of korean grocery...

I've driven past this place hundreds of times. We were honestly about to go to H Mart down the street instead, but we decided to turn in and give it a try. For a saturday afternoon it was very empty. Upon entering into the market, everything is placed well, and very clean. There were a lot of sample stands, every lady tending to it, was very friendly. We bought some fresh fluke from the seafood, had it fileted. Which we cooked immediately when we got home, it was very fresh, and good quality. We got other fish and shellfish from the seafood dept, so far so good. Everything looked like it was cleaned well and of good quality. The prices were also very reasonable. We bought a bunch of meats as well, mainly due to that the prices were very good. We also cooked some marinated bulgogi at home, it was very good. My son wanted a snack, so we bought some freshly made taiyaki from the kiosk near the entrance. It was very reasonably priced, and very good. They had a OREO flavored which was surprisingly good. Their red bean filling is also very good. We went in with little to no expectations, and we were pleased with H&Y. The employees are friendly, the store is clean, it has everything that H Mart has. Went to this alternative store as my usual Bergenfield location seemed to be shuttered. HOLY HELL ON EARTH!!!!! Should've known from just the parking lot insanity. It's not just the inferior space to even maneuver a cart but the rude maggot customers that just stop dead for whatever&won't/can't move but will freely run you over&don't blink an eye when you say "OW!!!" Yup I was the only non-Asian (aka Caucasian) in the place. If they don't re-open the Bergenfield store I will never ever shop with them again (sadly as they've always had what I was looking for&helpful ladies that have ordered stuff i was looking for that they didn't have) p.s. not one staff person I asked could tell me whether or not the Bergenfield location was closed yet their website checking in after today's hideousness states it is. Even so, today's abhorridness has me already checking out...
