York Technical College — Local services in Rock Hill

My kids attend/attended this school. My daughter had a medical emergency and was hospitalized during her first semester. She got far behind and reached out to financial aid for options. They advised her if she withdrew, she would not have to repay her scholarship and would still have it for next semester when she re-enrolls. Low and behold the financial aid person gave her a general response without looking at her specific classes and because of one class not yet starting- it had dropped her credit hours to 11 where 12 is required for the scholarship. Had they looked I to this she would have at least attended this one class to keep the credit hours. We had to repay the scholarship and she lost it. Fast forward to this year- she’s now in her last semester and she was emailed on a Thursday evening to do a payment plan for her classes by Friday! She sees the email on Friday- and it tells her the balance due is too low for a payment plan. Apparently the pay as you go option is not an option any longer which she was not aware of. So she called and email the school For help. No response and she gets booted from her classes. She’s spent this week trying to fix this by going down there and emailing and luckily her advisor went out of her way to try to help but one office sends her to a person who in turns says wrong area go to this area. This is the 5th day and she’s yet to have resolution. She’s done everything they asked and keeps getting the run around.

My son was in MLT program and got a D in one of the classes he needed a C in. He dropped out because they told him he’s have to wait until next fall to re-enroll AND he’d have to retake the two classes he made a B in and pay for them again. Make sense? Nope.

My niece enrolled right out of high school graduating from a rock hill school which she attended since January of 2017. Everything went smooth until it was time to pay. Initially her life scholarship had the balance covered almost 100%. When they went into to her account to accept and apply the scholarship- she saw They charged her out of state tuition which more than doubled what the balance due was a week prior!! They were saying they needed proof she was a SC resident even though she had already turned in transcripts from a rock hill high school for 2 school years. After speaking to financial aid they made her and my sister in law file an appeal and prove residency a second time and resubmit transcripts a second time (even though they had already received them) and then they needed to wait until it was reviewed and approved by higher ups.

Not to mention the numerous times we submitted tax forms and other paperwork only for it to be lost because the person who accepted the papers didn’t give them to the right person. This happened 4 times....

I hate this bookstore. It is why I have been renting books from amazon. I don't come from money guys. So, yes, of course I'm using financial aid to get my way through college. However, being as I wasn't even offered my financial aid until August 1st (deadline for tuition payments) I couldn't even get my books until I got to the school. The first time was on the first day of the semester, where they told me I needed an ID in order to get books. Let's just pick that apart for a second, I handed them a student ID that in order to get, I had to give student services my license so they could not only fill it to the brim with ALL of that same information, but they also took my picture in the same process, so all they had to do was swipe and viola... picture ID. the second time I went just before class having just received a new ID that I lost during a concert 3 months prior (it was my mistake, I can acknowledge this). I stood in line for almost 45 minutes, during which, about half way through the line I start seeing 2 people at the front of the line letting people through. I wonder to myself "what is going on?" As it turned out, their financial aid processor went down and they were fixing it. I said "oki it'll more than likely be fixed by the time I get up to the counter." They fixed it and I watched those same 2 people walk out the door books in hand. I get to the counter and the man says "our financial aid is down." I'm already 15 minutes late for my second math class of the semester. I put my books down said "I'm late for class" and headed straight there. The third time was on that very same day straight after my class ended at 10:50. I no more than made it to the book line which was stretched out the front door by the way and, 5 minutes in, they yell out "FINANCIAL AID WILL BE DOWN TIL ABOUT 12 O' CLOCK" I had to work at 2, so I left. Now today being the fourth attempt to get my books and they are closed today. This has been my worst experience at York Tech yet and all I'm trying to do is get my books. Now I'm waiting until tomorrow morning, just before my classes and needing to have read a chapter for 1 class already and getting all my homework done last minute just because of this bookstore, but all I can think at this current moment is "why am I getting punished for taking a semester that you offered me?" Being as all of this stemmed from the fact that I took summer courses that's really all...

I am currently a new student at York tech. The only reason why I am giving a descent review is because of a English professor named Mr. Crider. To understand the full story I will start at the beginning... When I first went in to sign up for classes at York tech the lady I was assigned to put me in the wrong classes. After not returning my calls I was then transferred to another lady who was too busy to fix anything. She was more interested in socializing with the other professors to really sit down and listen to what I needed (I literally could hardly get a word in edgewise). I only needed 2 online classes. That was it... but for some reason that seemed to hardest thing in the world for her to do. I am a very nice and an easy going person so I usually don't write bad reviews but she was awful. She couldn't tell me if I had to buy books or not.. Her exact words were "I'm sure you do" she would never call me back and was overall not a help. I found the contact information for one of my professors (Ryan Crider) and asked him about the books I would need for his class and he found a discrepancy in my classes (Both were not online classes like I had been told. Both were at the main campus two days a week between 8:00 am and 11:00 am which I can't do because I work M-F 7:45 am-4:30 pm). He went above an beyond for me and he stepped up and took the initiative even though he was not assigned to assist me. I give Ryan Crider 5 stars! !!! :D Thank you Mr. Crider! Oh and York Tech you should give this man a raise. He is outstanding! -Thankful Student 5/31/2015 Update AWEFUL!!!! I have been misadvised into 2 semesters of classes!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! They just want your money! Literally worst college...
