If you're in Rockford, Illinois and looking for a slice of nostalgic heaven, look no further than SkateCo! Let me tell you, this place holds a special spot in my heart.
As a teenager growing up in Rockford, SkateCo was THE spot to be on weekends. Every Friday night, without fail, you'd find me and my crew lacing up our skates, ready to hit the wooden floors and groove to some killer old school jams. And guess what? It wasn't just me who had a blast here. My uncle Kraig, bless his soul, was a regular here back in the day. He and his skating buddies practically owned the rink, tearing up the floors with their slick moves. Later on, he even became a Skateguard here, passing down the love for skating to me.
Speaking of Skateguards, I can't help but reminisce about the good old days when I proudly donned that uniform. I still remember helping to build their first wooden floor eons ago – talk about a labor of love!
But it wasn't just the skating that made SkateCo so special; it was the people. I'll never forget the lovely Raydie (rest in peace), who worked tirelessly at the concession stand. She showed me this incredible concoction – a Mountain Dew with a splash of their blue snowcone syrup. Mix it up, and boom! You've got yourself a neon green, bright blue delight that tasted like pure joy. It's a drink I still make to this day, and it instantly transports me back to those carefree skating days.
And let's not forget Adolf and his wife, the heart and soul of SkateCo. These two were more than just owners; they were like family to us skaters. Always welcoming, always treating us like royalty. I'm not sure if they're still around, but their legacy lives on in every roll of the wheels at SkateCo.
I'll admit, I miss those days something fierce, but seeing SkateCo still standing strong fills me with so much joy. It's more than just a skating rink; it's a time capsule of memories, laughter, and good vibes. If you're ever in Rockford, do yourself a favor and roll on over to SkateCo. Trust me, you...
Read moreI will never spend my money there ever again. They should be shut down for the safety hazards going on in there. Buckets and towels all over the skating floor and dining area . Skate Co should be ashamed of themselves. Booked a party , paid my money over the phone to arrive and be told about all the leaks .What was I going to do? Take the party elsewhere last minute? I should've been given that choice to continue reservation after being informed of the leaks . The building was freezing and even though there was only 2 parties they still didn't let down any more than 2 tables for seating. The adults that attended my party with their young children were charged for admission on top of skate rental because they needed to help their young child skate .(skate rental understandable). Even going to the bathroom or pretty much walk anywhere you were walking over puddles . Staff wasnt very deliteful however the dj was about the only welcoming person there. I recommend other...
Read moreThis place was acting very racist. The guy taking the money didn't want to take one of the kids money until he just pushed it to him and he had him standing there like he didn't hear him ask how much. Then we asked the guy with the skate's a question and got ignored until we asked him again then he didn't answer just shook his head no. Then the kids said every time they went to the bathroom the guy selling the tickets would stand by the bathroom until they came out. Then a couple of the kids fell while skating on the rink and the female worker told them they need to get up and then said she should stomp they head. Then I arrived at 10:04 to pick them up they were already standing outside even though they skate session was from 7p-10p. They get in the car and said the worker told them he would have the police come take them home. How could a public business treat kids like that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We will...
