Don't rent from Ellis music!! I have been making monthly payments every month, on time, for my daughter's instrument. And they just charged me in full. They treated me like I was trying to steal their instrument even as they noted that they had agreed that they also had just charged me this month only 3 days prior. In addition, only approximately 60% of your monthly payment actually gets applied to your balance. Almost 40% is used for "insurance". You are better off with a payment plan with an instrument bought online. They are a scam pretending like they are your nice neighbor
Update: I just wanted to update my review in response to what Ellis Music wrote below. I had to leave the state to be near friends because my child was suffering so severely from Lyme that she couldn't finish a day of school and I was struggling to keep my job. I explained repeatedly - when I spoke to Ellis Music - that I could not take off of work at this time to mail back the instrument. I told Ellis music it would not be possible in the month of June because of work obligations but I knew I could the month after. Ellis Music's "neighborly" response was to charge me in full in June. If you are going to get treated like you are dealing with a corporation, then you might as well get the financial benefits. Do a few internet searches and you will see. You will make the same monthly payments for Ellis Music for 5 years to be able to own an instrument you could own in 2 years from an "online-only" retailer. If you can't expect really neighborly treatment, then just save your money.
In addition, Ellis music has taken the time to respond to a google review, but has not yet emailed me a written statement to reflect that if/when I did in fact send them this instrument, that they would reimburse me in full. Much like from the corporations that we all have to deal with, and we have no rights, I am still waiting for this written statement from Ellis Music. If you like overpaying for corporation treatment, then I guess Ellis...
Read morePlease be aware of renting from this place. I rented an instrument, then needed to return a couple months after. I read the return policy and instructions of how to do it. I returns it to the school before I was going to get charged again on my card. Well 5 days later they charge my card! I called and talked to this guy who was very monotone and had no words to say when I explained that this was unfortunately too much to pay for at this time and I canceled it before and returned it on time thinking they can't/will not charge me because I did everything I was instructed to do. He said nothing, like silence. No apologies no nothing! The only thing he said was they dont pick them up until Friday. FRIDAY! I dropped it off on Monday! I also explained that this should be told to the manager and this is horrible to do someone especially around Christmas time. I canceled it because I don't have the money and now I have to wait 2 WEEKS or more for it to come back into my account! I am so upset and unfortunately this doesn't affect them, but my kids and family it does. How horrible of a business can you be doing this to people and no emotion at all to boot. You're working with families! You should really be ashamed of yourselves. I will NEVER have anything to do with this business or anything that's affiliated with them. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all the families, especially those who are struggling...
Read moreI have mixed feelings when it comes to Ellis. Most of the employees were helpful and polite. Communication was our break down. When my 11 year old, first year player turned in his Percussion kit, he inadvertently put in the school instrument rather than the Ellis assigned one. The music teacher said it is common because they set them up and just use the one in front of them in band. So when Ellis informed us, they neglected to say the instrument wasn't the correct one, they said he didn't turn it in. We were confused, the school said it was there with all the other instruments? So school was out, hard to speak with teachers, so we picked up the kit and attempted to drop it off, still confused as to why they didn't pick it up. When we got there I said to Stephanie, who was the contact through all of this, said maybe someone put it out after the fact and then in the same conversation said it was the wrong instrument and that is why the driver didnt pick it up. HAD we known the driver saw the instrument and didn't take it because the serial number didn't match we would have found the correct instrument. We would not have had to make another trip to Ellis which was 2 hours away. So my frustration level was off the chart due to the poor communication. Very disappointed and found a music store not...
