Stu and Sway at Able Body Fitness are beyond AMAZING! While going through a tough divorce in the beginning of the year, I was overweight and depressed. I started training with Sway in October 2022 weighing 221 lbs. in a size 22 and XXL. Sway has not only helped me physically with my weight loss, help my balance, and core strength but with nutrition do's and don'ts. Sway and Stu really care, and they both take the time to explain what the machines do and are always giving positive reinforcement when you feel like you can't do it anymore. There have been some really tough times just in my personal life that carried into my workout session, and Sway was more than a 'trainer" he made sure my "mind was right" before really diving into my workout. He always responds whenever I have questions or concerns no matter what time of day. Also, Stu - the amazing owner is ALWAYS there and has SO much knowledge of the industry that I literally learn something new every time I talk to him. I drive from Rocklin (30 min drive one way) every week just to be a part of Able Body Fitness, because it is WAY more than a "Gym." I am proud to say I now weigh 185lbs (at the moment) and in a size 14. I also just bought a size SMALL! in Adidas sweats! The only time I have ever had an "S" regarding my clothes is the "S" in PLUS.    Read moreBeen working out with Stuart for a while now primarily to see if I could gain mobility on my ankle. I have suffered from sub-talar arthritis for years and the only medical option offered so far has been a complete fusion, which I'm trying to avoid. So Stuart has been constantly coming up with new ways to get it to move which has resulted in better balance, mobility, and quality of life. Most of this has just been in my day-to-day activities, but had a chance to go to the mountains recently and hike with my sister-in-law who is quite fit and times her hikes. Not only was I able to keep up, it felt like the clock had been set back about 10 years based on my experience hiking with her. Only at the end with a steep downhill and gravely conditions did I have to slow down. I told Stuart at the gym today, and he immediately started coming up with exercises to improve my downhill performance. I can't wait for ski season which I have enjoyed less and less over the years as my ankle pain has increased and mobility decreased. Stuart is the most creative guy I've ever met when it comes to devising exercises, and that includes dozens of physical therapists and other personal trainers I've worked with since my arthritis diagnosis.    Read moreThis place really is a gem. Stu and his team create a really welcoming and friendly place to improve your health and laugh along the way. I'm actually a quite serious lifter who had taken a long break from the gym and needed a coach to motivate me to get back into routine. What I thought I'd get was professional performance based training that would get me stronger and more capable. I did get that. The real surprise were the friends I made along the way. Everyone says hi when you walk in. Likely, you'll end up with a nickname and people cheer you on when they see you're really working hard.
Much of the membership base are seniors working to gain better mobility, strength and ability to do more. I've seen one woman come in with a walker and nurse ditch both of those in two months. Seeing her having such difficulty walking in to now doing bounding exercises is really a sign of how great Stu and his team are at working at the appropriate rate pace/load and making huge improvements in people's lives.
I'm not a senior (yet) but my wife and I really enjoy training at Able Body Fitness. She feels a lot stronger and is able to apply her training to her climbing ambitions.
