Produce Plus — Local services in Salem

Our church Thanksgiving Dinner was on 11/20/2022. I ordered turkey and gravy from Produce Plus 2 weeks before the dinner. It was to be picked up 11/19/22 the Saturday night before by 5:30. I did get 2 calls on Saturday asking if I wanted the turkey cold or warm. So I was confident everything would be ready for pick up. I had my daughter pick up the turkey. She called me saying they had no turkey for Mt. Moriah Church. I spoke to the girl myself who said she never heard or seen anything about our order. They did have an order that was to be picked up on Sunday morning and she gave that order to us. This was bad deal but could have been worse if there would have been no turkey for the dinner. The turkey was delicious. I had planned to call the owner and try to find out what had happened since sometimes those who should know, never find out. Then comes today 11/23/22…a phone call at 5:30 received from Produce Plus. A young silly acting girl was calling to ask me if I was going to pick up my turkey order by 6pm? I tried to explain as she was relaying the conversation to the kids who were there with her. I told her that my turkey pick up time was last Saturday. She actually laughed… she continued to relay to the group what had happened at which a boy in the background yells OUR BAD!!! I have shopped there many times over the years buying produce, flowers, meat and never had a problem. But something has happened here and the place will not be open much longer if they don’t get some adult supervision for this...

This was our go to place for meat bundles and lunch specials. Even after an employee gave me attitude when I ordered a sandwich (eyerolls included). Then she refused to give me the bread I always order with it, telling me hoagie rolls are for Italian beef, not sandwiches. The deal breaker was when I ordered a meat bundle and paid upfront. I was told it would be ready in 1-2 days. When I called to pick it up they said it was delayed because other customers might come in and need their meat first since Valentine’s Day was two weeks away. The worker said she didn’t agree with it but it’s what the boss said to do. I told her customers don’t appreciate being treated like that, got a refund and said to tell her boss I won’t be back.

Friendliest place I have visited in Salem, Illinois. This is such clean and inviting establishment. Fresh meats, produce and gourmet candies in bulk are the things that you notice immediately upon entering. Take a few minutes to wander around this quaint little gem! Produce Plus is an understatement. They have lots of specialty items that you are NOT going to find at the Super Stores. The fresh cut meats are by far the best looking in town! Famous for many things, high on my list is smoked pork chops and ham. They have a good selection of pasta salads and side dishes to enhance any meal. Seasonal treats and catering add to the list of great things coming out of this wonderful little shop. Go see what you have...
