I have a few friends who go or have gone to NXPT and they all have loved it so I decided to give it a try. I signed up for the 10 days for $10 deal— which is a total steal since you’re able to use both the La Mesa location (which is also next to their yoga and spin studio) and the Kearny Mesa location. After my 10th day, I immediately signed up for a membership. After learning that they have a nurse/military discount, this sealed the deal for me.
The Workouts: I mostly do the 45 minute classes (X45) and the hot power fusion yoga. They offer X30, spin, pump, and WOD classes. The workouts are challenging and I leave feeling satisfied with my workouts, even the warm alone leaves you breathless haha. The X45 and X30 classes are mixed with cardio and strength, the pump class has less cardio. What I would appreciate though is if there was a set schedule of what body part we’ll be focusing on each day so that I can plan around the week if I’m not able to go to an NXPT class. However, NXPT is very active on Instagram so I always just look at their stories in the morning so I know what to expect for my workout— this works for me as I go in the later morning classes.
The instructors/community: Everyone that I’ve taken a class with has been amazing! Shout out to Ali, Mariana, Ryan, Dan, and Dafna for HPF! They make you feel welcome and will push you to challenge yourself. The people I’ve met in these classes are nice and very welcoming— this was a big reason why I signed up for a membership.
Location: There’s ample parking for both locations. I’ve never had a problem finding one but I only go in the mornings though, so I can’t speak for the afternoon classes.
Overall, NXPT has very welcoming members, amazing instructors, and workouts that will certainly challenge you. I’m so glad I signed up,...
Read moreI'll admit I was a little skeptical at first. I've never been big on CrossFit style, fast paced workouts. But they do an amazing job of challenging your physical limitations as well as your mental. I'm still relatively new, but the trainers and gym goers are all phenomenal people. And I can honestly say that I feel prepared for the Spartan Race I have coming up this weekend. I highly recommend them.
I do want to add this to the review as a heads up. In my opinion, you should have a basic understanding of what correct form is for common exercises, and how to self correct when you start getting tired. There are pretty big numbers in the classes (this allows the gym to continue operating). However, that means that the trainers can't fix all the small technical issues that you may have during class. Knowing good technique can greatly reduce your chances of an injury.
My second recommendation would be to get a basic understanding of technique, and be willing to ask the trainers before or after class if they can give you some pointers if you get stuck.
I just moved from North County San Diego. I was fortunate to go to a gym there that had a very strong focus on technique. I come to NXPT with years of experience at focusing on my technique, and I can do most exercises without worrying about the consequences of poor form.
As I said in the first paragraph, I highly recommend this gym. I only wanted to add the bit about technique because it's something that I didn't understand until years into working out....
Read moreMy husband and I were visiting and were so excited to check out NXPT—and it absolutely lived up to our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how clean and well-maintained the gym was. But what really made the experience special was the people. Every member we met was incredibly friendly, and it truly felt like a welcoming community.
The coaches and owners, Dan and Rachel, went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and included. They were so warm, encouraging, and just genuinely sweet people. You can tell how much they care about their community and the environment they’ve created—it really shows in every interaction.
We absolutely loved the workouts! The movements were fun, challenging, and really well programmed. It struck the perfect balance between being intense and accessible. The variety kept things exciting, and the way it was all set up made it easy to follow, even as first-time visitors. The equipment was top-notch, and everything had its place—no chaos, just a smooth, motivating environment.
If you’re considering checking out NXPT, don’t hesitate—you won’t be disappointed. We wish there was a location near where we live because we’d be there all the time. We can’t wait to come back next time...
