Amazon Fulfillment Center Tours - SAT2 — Local services in San Marcos

Took this tour the other day and it was really interesting and fun.

As a Prime member and fairly heavy user of Amazon, I was interested in going on this free tour when I saw it on Social Media.

Signing up was a snap. It was a nice drive and very easy to find. The people who took us on the 45 minute to 1 hour tour were all nice, friendly and quite obviously proud to be Amazonians as they call themselves.

This place is HUGE. Almost a million square feet on 4 floors. This facility only handles smaller items and has over 10 million items in stock. They ship out 500,000 packages or more a day!

Seeing the robots moving racks around the floor, the way "pickers" have lights pointing them to the bins they need was very interesting. Towards the end of the tour, seeing the bins with "stuff" coming down the conveyor belts and realizing how much "stuff" we all buy was quite amazing.

There's a reason Amazon is putting many retail stores out of business, it's because they do what they do so well.

The price of being a Prime Member is almost worth it just for the decent video content you get with your membership. Add to that getting stuff the day after you order it (even sometimes the same day) and it's not hard to understand why Amazon is such a powerhouse and growing constantly. Sooo we sat at the gate for like 15 mins to check in which is whatever. Hooked to trailer and went inside to get paperwork. Came back out and started doing paperwork and 2 employees come out and tell us we need to be off property in 9 mins cuz they have a 30 min limit or some junk, they asked us to do our paperwork in the median. Can't sit in the road with our company as it will cancel our lease. So they literally stood next to us to time us. We were done within 2 mins. And we went out to slide our tandems and he told us to do it at the gate. Like seriously.... Never have we ever been to a shipper or receiver that has rushed us to get out off of their property. Truckers have to do trailer inspections DOT law. And you kick us off the property where we can safely do an inspection and tell us to go do them out on the street....

Inaugural warehouse, totally unorganized! 3 hr wait to get unloaded! First guy puts me in a dock door and then forgets all about me! I'm seeing trucks come in after me get unloaded and leave! After third hour I asked a different guy on the forklift who's in charge around here, because the first guy put me in a dock door and forgot all about me and he says that guy gave him a bunch of papers including mine from all the trucks but didn't mention to him that I need to be unloaded! And I'd been there since 0850! Second guy on forklift said he'd unload me and it didn't take him about 20 minutes to unload a full truckload of rolling carts! I finally got out of there around 1230! Smh! New warehouse or not, there should've been some kind of organized effort between management and the workforce at said establishment!...
