My main hobby is PC gaming, I've been building and gaming on custom rigs of my own since I've been 14 years old. I'm in my late 30s now and have work, family, and other obligations so I am short on time. And so when I wanted to build a new top of the line gaming PC to upgrade my 5 year old system, I needed someone I could trust to build my PC after I bought all the parts. Thankfully, I had Rand at the Computer Place. Last year, he quickly and skillfully replaced the dying AIO liquid CPU cooler in my (now) old rig. So, when I dropped off parts I bought worth almost four grand, I had no worries. While serving other customers' computer needs, within 3 days, he unpacked, built, and tested my new gaming PC from the ground up. He stayed up late Friday evening to finish it because I mentioned I wanted to tinker and play on it on the weekend. It runs perfectly, and I know if there is an issue, I can call Rand and he'll do his utmost to ensure that the PC runs perfectly again and that I am happy as a customer. Attached is a picture of the new beast he constructed for me. Rand will always get my business and he should always get yours as well.

Unprofessional and Unacceptable Experience I brought my laptop to The Computer Place, which is owned and operated by one man, Rand, for a simple fan replacement. I was quoted $150. A week later, I got a text saying the repair would now cost $400. I declined and said I’d take it elsewhere, at which point Rand offered to do it for $200 and told me I should be grateful for the “discount.” Another week passed, and I was told that parts inside the laptop were “breaking off.” When I asked for more details, I was met with complete silence for days. Eventually, when Rand did respond, he was rude, insulting, and unprofessional—I have screenshots of these messages. To top it off, I was told that my laptop, which originally just needed a fan replacement, no longer powered on. Then I was told I needed to pay $160 just to get my now broken laptop back. It ended up taking nearly two months to receive it. The behavior, delays, unexpected charges, and ultimately returning a non-working computer is absolutely unacceptable. I would strongly warn others against doing business with The Computer Place.

After my laptop’s battery broke down and caused my laptop to almost catch on fire I was only able to find one shop that stays open the extra hour while everyone else closes. after giving him my laptop he ran a full diagnostic on it and also made sure my hard drive was fully functional while not losing any data by creating a backup + making a new one. In addition to that, he also added an extra terrabyt just to make sure I could get the full use of my laptop which means a lot because I’m constantly on my pc. I can’t believe how nice the shop/staff was while they put in a bunch of work just to fix the problems I had and make my life easier

Let me preface this by stating that I took my business to The Computer Place initially because of the reviews and history of bad service from another local repair shop. “Hind site is 20/20” because now looking back, the good reviews seem fake and around the same dates as one another. I purchased a replacement cover and hinge cover for my laptop and brought it with me. I was initially advised by Rand Burkey that he would be able to replace it for $50 in a couple of hours. What would be a couple of hours turned to an all day affair and was advised that it would not be ready until the next day and that the price had increased to $90 due to difficulties that he was having replacing the part. Not to mention he kept trying to sell me a hard drive that I didn’t need or ask for. The next day came and he was still unable to replace the piece, however promised to do so. He then calls to tell me he is unable to fix it and blames it being the wrong part, I would have to come and pick up my laptop and he would still charge me $90 for something he could not do, though he promised he could. Upon arriving to pick up my laptop, it was noted that he altered the facing to the screen to attempt to get the part to stay. Not to mention glue residue was noted to the new cover and hinges from him trying to glue the piece on. He kept blaming it on being the wrong piece. He went on about having to rewire the camera and all into the cover and he had never encountered such a difficult issue. He even stated “this is why I sell Dell”. He also kept asking if I brought cash. Seems like all he cared about. Prior to paying I asked him to let me be sure the computer turns on. What do you know? It did not. He had to take it apart in front of me and fix it. Upon paying and giving the laptop to my spouse, he noticed the teeth on the replacement part had also been broken off from Rand attempting to get the hinge cover to attach. My husband went up to him as he was immediately trying to exit the shop to question him and he gave some excuse of the teeth not being necessary. He then dismissed him and stated he had a family emergency and would call me. He did call and text me and stated he would rectify the situation. The next day I informed him, after him texting me trying to still see about fixing what he already could not. I told him I just wanted to be reimbursed for the part that he broke. No answer. I then attempted to get on my computer and upon testing the camera, it did not work. I immediately headed back to The Computer Place and he was not there. I texted, no answer. I called three times and went directly to voicemail. I had my husband call and he immediately picks up. He then tells him he’ll be at his shop in 15. After approx 30 min of waiting he then shows up. He denied avoiding my phone calls or texts. He blamed it on T-mobile’s cell towers. I then tell him the problem with the camera not working and he tells me I have to drop it off and wait for it. I told him that it needed to be fixed right then and there as he was the last person to mess with the camera. I also mentioned the broken part that he should compensate me for. He never offered a refund or anything other than trying to continue to fix it. At this point he has proven to be incompetent and untrustworthy. I advised him that if he did not rectify his shortcomings at that moment, I would have to take him to small claims court. I felt it not right to have to wait even longer for an issue he created. He refused to fix it then and there so now I must resort to other measures. I’ve never encountered such poor business practices. I had been nothing but patient with this person, however my patience has been abused. Poor business and work ethic. Take your...

I cannot express how impressed and grateful I am for the exceptional service provided by The Computer Place in Sarasota, Florida. Rand, the owner and skilled technician, worked wonders on my son's laptop, breathing new life into it with two brand new hard drives and a new battery.

From the moment we first contacted The Computer Place, Rand demonstrated a level of professionalism and dedication that truly set this business apart. He made it a priority to stay in constant communication with us throughout the entire repair process, understanding that timeliness and transparency are of utmost importance to customers. This in itself was extremely comforting, as we always knew the status of the repair and when to expect our laptop back.

To our astonishment, Rand managed to complete the repairs and have the laptop ready for pick-up within a mere 48 hours. This level of efficiency is unparalleled and further reinforced our trust in the expertise and capabilities of The Computer Place.

Beyond the remarkable turnaround time, the quality of the repairs completed by Rand was truly outstanding. Our son's laptop now runs like it's brand new, thanks to the new hard drives and battery that were expertly installed. It's clear that Rand takes great pride in his work and possesses an extensive knowledge of computer repair.

Furthermore, the customer service provided by The Computer Place was exceptional. Rand went above and beyond to ensure our complete satisfaction, answering all our questions patiently and offering valuable advice to prevent any future issues. It was evident that he genuinely cared about our experience and wanted nothing more than to provide the best possible service.

Overall, I cannot recommend The Computer Place in Sarasota enough. Rand's exceptional skills, promptness, communication, and commitment to customer satisfaction make this computer repair shop a clear standout in the area. If you're in need of any computer repairs or maintenance, The Computer Place should be your first and only choice. They have certainly earned a long-time customer...

⚠️ PLEASE READ

After years of our computer tower working fine we started having issues where it would run slowly and shut down.

I called many places in Sarasota looking for someone who could fix it and only got a response from Rand at the computer place.

In March he updated our operating system and stressed tested it and sent it back home with us.

After a couple months (now July) we had to bring it back because we experienced the SAME exact issue of the computer running slow and shutting down.

We don’t use it daily. We travel. We use it when we need it.

We happily paid hundreds of dollars to resolve the issue in March. Now we were invoiced almost $500 more dollars to resolve THE SAME ISSUE.

I asked for a discount because at this point we could’ve just put that almost total of $1000 towards buying something new.

He refused to offer any sort of discount at all and continued to ARGUE that the issues were completely different even though the symptoms were the same.

Even if that were true I myself, who has been in sales and customer service positions before, I am appalled that rather than giving any sort of discount at all, Rand chose to ARGUE with the customer, charge an obscene amount of money, and risk this Google review rather than having a happy returning customer.

If I take my car into the shop because I hear a knocking noise and then take it home and a couple months later the same noise comes back, I as a customer am going to assume it’s the same exact issue that wasn’t fixed correctly the first time.

Rand. I wish you the best. I hope our computer works now but if it doesn’t we will not be returning to you and we cannot in good faith recommend anyone to take their computers...
