I visited this gym as a drop in from out of town. I've been doing Crossfit since 2009 and have come to expect a certain amount of community and interaction at the many Crossfit gyms I've visited over the years. When a new face enters a gym it's typically customary for at least 1 person to greet them if not multiple. I arrived early to fill out the usual liability paperwork but waited several minutes before I was directed where to go to complete it which was. No big deal until I saw that the head coach had just been sitting around watching the previous wod. The coach running the wod had to come over and stop what she was doing to help me. That was the last time anyone spoke to me without me trying to initiate conversation. Friendly people and a sense of commmunity has been a common theme with all of the gyms I've been to. This wasn't so at RFS today. So when the previous wod ended people stragglers began arriving after the start time of 10am. After ten minutes of warming up on our own I asked a member if this was normal. She replied that the work didn't begin until 15min after the class time. At this point the coach had still not addressed the class or interacted with us at all. The head coach finally called us over to begin the lifting portion of class before the metcon. Still he had not introduced himself and seemed over being there with a nonchalant attitude. It was just deadlifts but come on at least crack a smile or go over some performance points or something. Lastly we started the met con which was ropeclimbs and rowing. I liked the wod but the coach disappeared before half the class finished. At 5 min to 11 he still could not be found and even other members were.questioning where he went and how to do the cooldown. My over all experience at RFS was poor. Maybe it was just an off day or maybe they are just too big. I guess I prefer mom-and-pop gyms because they're more friendly and involved in the classes . Old-school Crossfit is a community not just a bunch of fancy words on the website in a big gym with bells and whistles. It's a group of people in a building that may or may not have AC sometimes improvised equipment with a good friendly attitude and a desire to be if part of something great. RFS was fine but I think I'll try one of the other local gyms while I'm still here as a comparison maybe I'm judging them...
Read moreYou have probably seen the videos pop up on your Facebook feed, and wondered what is this all about?? I was hesitant to respond, and thought it over for a couple days and talked with a good friend of mine who happens to be a coach there. I came to the realization that I wasn’t where I wanted to be physically and mentally and this was a perfect opportunity to make a change! So I dove in, and went full force into the RFS 6 week challenge. I had my thoughts and reservations going in, with what I think most of us have when it comes to “Crossfit” and the people who do crossfit. Boy was I wrong, this isn’t a secret society of people that only talk about crossfit every chance they get, these are average people that just want to get healthy and stay fit. These athletes there welcomed me with open arms. The coaches and every member was friendly and helped motivate me to complete this 6 week challenge. The Coaches here are beyond friendly and super knowledgeable. I basically had a personal fitness coach and nutritionist. I loved the attention to detail and the patience they have for every member and at every level of fitness. Never once did I feel shamed, or overwhelmed or that people were looking at me funny while trying to learn the lifts and motions, everyone helped and gave pointers and tips. I really saw what this place and this crossfit was, it was a family. And in 6 short weeks, even through Thanksgiving and Christmas Parties, I was able to stay strong and lost over 20 lbs and over 7% of body fat. The results speak for themselves. The confidence I gained and boost of energy I had every day was worth every minute spent in the gym. I love that all you have to do is walk in the door, put in the effort for an hour, and eat healthy. Your body will thank you for it in ways you’re not used to! So if your on the fence about crossfit or about any physical fitness program. Why not take a shot at Real fitness of Sarasota? What do you have to lose, other then body fat and pounds?? If you didn’t get the vibe from my review, and I have to spell it out. I give this place 5 STARS and recommend to any...
Read moreI have been to several gyms over the past few years so I’m not totally new to working out. I have always been courteous about this “CrossFit” thing. From day one it was a totally different workout from mixing cardio to core and most importantly stretching. The coaches very very helpful in making sure you preformed the exercise correctly to avoid injury. I learned to dig deep and find strength I did not know I had. Mentally and physically I feel different in just six short weeks! And the members are so friendly they actually cheer you on during the workout seems like a great “family “ to be apart of! I would highly recommend this gym! (It’s also very clean and neat when you walk in). I pretty sure I found a new healthy...
