Schererville Community Center — Local services in Schererville

I was supposed to have my mom’s birthday at this place on 7/13 at 6:00p. We were to arrive at 5:30pm to decorate. They gave us a call at 3pm saying they had been having issues all day with power (that still wasn’t on when they called) and that if we wanted to still use the venue we could if power was restored. However, if the power went out again while we were there everyone would have to leave. They asked if we had another venue so that they could leave an alternate address on the door for our guests to go to. We understand that things happen that are out of our control, the part that I can’t understand is why weren’t we notified sooner. They offered a refund but it may be a month before we could receive the several hundred dollars we paid up front in addition to some meeting that had to take place. I feel that there should have been an exception to getting our refund back sooner than a month. This was completely out of our control and theirs too, but to be so inconsiderate to call 2 hours before we were to arrive and not return any phone calls is truly unprofessional! We stopped by a day or so after the party was supposed to take place and the person in charge was unavailable and apparently still is. NO ONE HAS RETURNED AND PHONE CALLS! This is a hidden gem in the area. The facility is new and has plenty of parking. I've sent my son for kids programs there and rented out a room for my daughters' birthday party. The staff are friendly and easy to work with.
