I think overall this is a really good gym. However, in order to make this place worth while you need to partner and work with a trainer who uses their facility. I went to this gym for a year and the business is really nice. Most people are solid and very helpful or friendly. The reason why I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is due to a few reasons:
Weekend and Night Hours. If I’m paying 175 dollars a month, I’d expect close to near all time access. I’d be willing to pay 200 if I was able to do that. Sometimes I can’t hit the gym in the morning and have to do it late in the afternoon. They close at 7pm, which can be very annoying. The same goes for weekends. They’re only open from 7am to 12pm. I’ve never heard of a gym doing that and it’s frustrating to hold myself accountable when I need to make up workouts on the weekend. That lack of access was annoying for the cost.
Some of the trainers must be training kids or babysitting as a side gig. I’ve had to deal with little kids running around in the gym or having a football hit me while I’m working out. There’s nothing wrong with making extra money, but when it interferes with paying clients, their workouts, and the little kids clearly aren’t there for a workout, it’s a problem.
A majority of the equipment is in great shape. However, not having batteries in your Skillmill/ self powered treadmill so someone can track their intervals, or a ratchety chain pulling on a rowing machine does get annoying.
Lastly, so many people do not clean up after themselves here. I lost count of all the times I’d see benches and weights laying around after a trainers session. Treat the gym like it’s yours and don’t be entitled to the point where you’ll make a college kid working the front desk clean up after your mess. Yea it’s a part of their job, but don’t be lazy. Benches in the middle of the walk ways, kettle bells randomly in places just gets old when you’re spending 10-20 minutes just look for clamps, weights, kettle bells or attachments to workout with.
I actually really love the facility, and I was disappointed when I had to make the switch, but paying for a personal trainer that no longer works at that gym and a non trainer gym membership rate is VERY HIGH. I’m not poor and do well for myself, but it’s just not feasible to be frugal. I chose to stick working with my trainer because I believe in having a coach that has similar values and background to who I am. Glory Gains and their team are overall solid. I like the people there, and I felt this was a fair review. I’d give this place 3.5 stars but I don’t have that option. The biggest reason being the hours on weekends and work nights. I think if they put a bit more effort to curb those things, I’d easily be willing to pay the non trainer membership and call this place home again.
Atleast with Mountainside I don’t have to deal with little kids running around or not being able to use the gym due to weird night or weekend hours. As a self starter, a trainer online works just as much as in person. So, in the end the cost due to those drawbacks caused me to move gyms. I definitely suggest trying the place out but you need to figure out if...
Read moreToday was my first time at Glory Gains and I chose to work with Caleb. I’m closing in on 58 and am intimidated by gyms. My past experience has been hairspray, makeup and fake in Los Angeles. I don’t know the first thing about working out to be truthful so I chose to have a personal 1:1 session. It was the right choice for my safety! I also need to comment on how welcome the staff and clients made me feel. I am out of shape, much older than most and recently became a non-smoker. This is not an easy time for me so choosing the right gym, trainer and vibe mandatory for my success. I am beyond grateful for the welcoming feeling more than anything. Besides the professionalism, the facility itself is spotless. If you’re on the fence about where to find your squad, look no further. You...
Read moreUnfortunately only experienced this gym & it’s environment about 3-4 times. Unfortunately my trainer no longer used that facility. While I had been there, I noticed the bathrooms were pretty old school, put nicely. Besides the newish looking showers the women’s bathroom needs a face lift for sure. For the monthly gym payment & considering the separate amenities offered at different high prices, the bathroom was rough looking. As a FYI yoga isn’t included. If I remember correctly it was $30 a month membership... Besides the bathroom, I would consider it a versatile, roomy, well designed gym! There is a outside area as well. The front desk peeps seemed cool, the trainers & members. 😌 For future I would consider...
