Baleen — Local services in Seattle

Firstly, positive: This place is a dream for picking up a quality gift or just browsing when you have a little extra on hand to spend. I seriously love everything in the store and the vibe. But, I tried to go in twice recently to purchase myself some earrings. BOTH times, there was a note on the door that said “At lunch. Be back soon.” I thought, “No biggie. Only open from 12-5. Surely they won’t be gone long.” I waited for 30 minutes and saw 4 other people try the door while I waited in my car. The first day, it was at 1ish...? The next time it was at 2:15. I was a little shocked by this with only 5 open hours if I’m being honest. This isn’t exactly an environment where the employee couldn’t have a sandwich when she isn’t busy. I could overlook this once but I wasted quite a bit of time on two occasions in an attempt to give my business to someone local. When it says that you’re open from 12-5, you should be open from 12-5. Those hours are already quite limited for the average working person.

Ordered a $40 pair of earrings, wore them ONE time and one of them came out of my ear unbeknownst to me and was lost. I asked if they’d replace it. They said no but they’d sell me a single earring to replace it (plus $7.50 again for shipping).

Asked if they would refund me for the single and I could return the one I still had. No again. They said they could include rubber backs for them so I wouldn’t lose another- which it seems they should include anyway so this doesn’t happen in the first place. Unfortunately, I’m not interested in being out $70+ for a single pair of be VERY minimal earrings.

Overall disappointed in my experience/won’t shop with this small business again. Plenty of makers would resolve something like this to maintain a customer...

My sister ordered three beautiful pieces from Baleen for her wedding day, but unfortunately, there was a shipping issue and the items weren't going to arrive in time. I reached out to the customer service team, and all I can say is—I wish every company operated with this level of care and efficiency.

The team was incredibly responsive, kind, and proactive in helping us resolve the issue. They went above and beyond to make sure my sister received all of her jewelry in time for her big day, and we are so grateful.
