Beautiful trail, but CONFUSING SIGNAGE. This does NOT easily connect to the out-and-back ~1mi Sedona View Trail (at the $3 parking lot labeled "Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout" on Google Maps). We didn't want to come back the way we came after walking down from the airport parking vista lot and needing to head back to our car, so we thought "airport loop" suggests that this connects back to the Airport Scenic Lookout in a comparable amount of time. NO! It's another 3mi to get you back to the junction with the out-and-back trail back to your car. If you have time to spare and the energy to do a total of 5mi, add this to the other trail, but if you are like us or the 3 families we ran into who faced the same confusing situation, do NOT take this trail if you're hoping to have a shortcut back to your car. There's a giant airstrip in the middle, which...
Read moreWe went around 3pm and parked at the top by the scenic overlook to start the trail, since the trailhead parking was full. We did the airport loop which from parking lot to the end was 3.9 miles and took about 2 hours to complete. From the parking lot to the start of the loop is an easy but very rocky trail. The first third of the loop, going clockwise, is the hardest part. Several slanted rocks, dropoffs and narrow cliff trails. If you're scared of heights or have poor balance this might not be the tail for you. This is the area of the vortex and the best views. After this, it's fairly easy but very rocky with plenty of climbs and descends. Proper trail shoes are a must to ensure great grip. It's a true 360 as it loops around the mountain, one of the best in Sedona. This is a must add...
Read moreThis is another fairly easy trail close to the busy areas of Sedona. There were two parking areas and we parked at the lower level. Spaces were very limited.
The trail itself had a gentle ascent and then back down as a loop. The views of the red rock formations in the distant were inspiring. We started the hike in a light rain and eventually it got sunny and much warmer as we worn way too much cloths for this hike. So, do dress appropriately. Parts of the trail were muddy from the rain this week, so hiking boots are probably a good call. Most reviewers believed this trail was easy, so I just wore my running shoes. Note to self: no matter how easy a trail may be, wear hiking boots to save your...
