I recently visited the Sedona Airport Overlook while staying at the Sky Ranch Lodge right next to the overlook. This spot is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Sedona, offering some of the most stunning views you can imagine.

The overlook provides a wonderful vista view of the Sedona landscape, showcasing its iconic red rocks and lush valleys. The colors, especially at sunset, are truly mesmerizing. It's a perfect spot for photographers, nature lovers, or anyone looking to soak in the beauty of Sedona while being above the scene.

Despite being near the airport, the area is surprisingly peaceful. The small planes taking off and landing add a unique charm without disturbing the tranquility of the place. It's a great spot for quiet reflection or a romantic moment. That is, anytime before sunset, which is the most popular time. You may also encounter a tourist bus and then the area will be flooded with people. It's sort of hit or miss on the tranquility.

Accessibility is another plus – it's easy to reach and doesn’t require a strenuous hike, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and fitness levels. There's ample parking, though it can get a bit crowded during peak times like sunset. The cost is $5/per car, or you could sneak a parking space next door at the Sky Ranch hotel next to it. There is also free parking near Mesa Grill if you don't mind a bit of a walk (not too far).

There are two look out areas here. One as you drive up the airport road, on the left there is about 8-10 parking spots or so. In my experience, they filled quickly and you just had to have the good luck to be driving by right when one opened up. It took me 4-5 drives up and down the airport road over the course of a couple days at random times to finally have one be open for me to snag. But persistence paid off and it was amazing! That has a lookout that you can see in basically every direction and take it all in....so wonderful! The climb up is a little steep, although there is a cable along the edge that you can you as a bit of a hand rail support type thing. Be careful of your footing, as some of the rock surfaces are smooth and very slick depending upon the type of footwear you have on. There is also a trail that goes off from this area if you like hiking. I did not do that, so I can't speak to how that was. But its there for those who have the time and enjoy a hike. And then there is also a second overlook area at the top of the airport road, parking off to the left (I think it was $3 to park) and then on the right side of the road is the look out area. And just further up the road is the actual airport. There was a restaurant up there, that I heard was nice and good, but didn't go there myself.
