Few jewels; in general overpriced
If you don't care about few extra dollars - you can get few specials and get all the usual stuff in one place. Stuff all smiles Unique and competitive: fresh meat, fresh seafood. Very few produce are actually local or special in any way. Nearly all of the assortment can be found in regular stores nearby for less. This is a regular practice of such kind of stores: choice of items leaning towards health and some organic makes you assume, that EVERYTHING here is somewhat healthy. In many cases there are REGULAR products, marked up. Both: exploiting customer's impressianability and impressing the belief: "if it's more expensive - it's better". Most organic stuff can be found in QFC, Walmart or Safeway for less; not organic - only small portion is actually local (but store does not even claim it is: you just assume). " Healthy" or "natural" stuff is frequently neither. As AN example: ridiculously expensive " beef only franks" after closer inspection, request for FDA list of ingredients turned out to be your regular preservative, flavoring, color additives laden and fillers were accompanying the "beef". It's not bad, just traditionally misleading. I get there meats ( local), fish (locally caught), apples (some are relativelylocal). You may like shellfish (locally caught) and next door located garden addition. They usually bring some herbs assortments in a pot, seeds, Christmas themed planted into the store. Super expensive tomatoes we bough, were nearly tasteless, others were exactly like ones in other stores. Organics all were more expensive than around. P.S. SEASONAL produce usually does include local,...
Read moreOutstanding fresh produce and fresh meats, at very reasonable prices. The produce staff is nearby, ready to help with selection. The checker was very efficient and couteous. I was disappointed in the deli cooked meats----the rotiserrie whole chicken was dry and the individual sized cheese and ham quiche had a slightly watery taste, with a tough crust with no flavor. Staff in the supplement aisle is very knowledgable about the vitamins and hair products. There's a varied selection of bulk items not found at most grocers, including corn meal, breakfast cereal and granola. If you want just a small quantity of sweets like fresh licorice, this is the place for it. The west building is their plant nursery, with the healthiest Spring veggie seedlings or bedding plants in the area. Their selection of Japanese maples is varied, with mature dwarf trees in beautiful colors, especially during Fall. The choice of pots for your purchases is extensive, along with statuary and garden decor. Some drawbacks: Sometimes there can be long lines at the checkers. The aisles are not wide or uncluttered for handicapped customers. There are only a few handicapped parking spots and the entry door is not automated. But there is a covered front walkway...
Read moreThis is a wonderful place for fresh produce and specialty alternative care items. It has always been crowded, but even more so now that Sequim has experienced such a population explosion! One of the reasons I love Sunny Farms is that they will put out bags and boxes of older produce at a massive discount, keeping an old tradition alive. Growing up in the seventies and eighties, this was a common practice and a great deal for everyone: the store mitigated losses and people of meager means could afford to eat. I hope they never stop this practice.
Of course, I love Sunny Farms for much more than their discounted produce. They have just about everything one could possibly need for each season, along with a deli and amazing meat counter. Whomever is sourcing the meat and produce obviously puts their heart and soul into the task. The employees are very curteous and knowledgeable, always willing to help.
They are also planning on expanding their customer parking capacity, as well as utilizing the small building across the parking lot. I can't wait to see...
