Sonoma Mission Gardens — Local services in Sonoma

My friends and I came from Vallejo to shop and ask questions about some of their plants/succulents. We were there for about an hour before we were finally greeted by someone who worked there. Even then her greeting was just part of her job and she kept on going. Finally after being there for about 2 hours or so, the employee who greeted us an hour ago was the only one we have seen this far. When it was time to check out we were amazed to see that there were 4 employees hanging out at the cash register with no customers. My friends and I looked at each other in shock that this is how customer service is in Sonoma. So sad! We would have spent more money if we had someone come help us and answer some of our questions on care of certain plants or where some of the plants we wanted were located. I've been coming to Sonoma Mission Gardens for many years, and I have always looked forward to the colorful collection of plants, the inviting ploshing of fountains, and the noisy flock of gorgeous fowl on site. I have felt welcomed there by their personable staff and I know I can turn to Dave Fazzio with any questions, however trivial. I'm not a good or devoted gardener, and my purchases at SMG have never been large. Until recently I had no cause to call on their landscaping services. When I did, however, I was very pleased by the professionalism of the staff as well as their personal attention to my needs. They went beyond my expectations, making thoughtful improvements and offering suggestions for the future. I was warned that the animals here were kept poorly, and still I was shocked. The way the chickens are kept is vile, cruel, and inhumane. They're locked in a tiny coop with nothing to do besides walk in circles and lay down. I was sickened. I would absolutely never buy ANYTHING from this place. There is no excuse for this treatment. I feel extremely bad for the animals here and the employees who are forced to stand by and watch this happen because of the owners. This treatment is absolutely criminal.
