I stopped into the Botany Shop to buy a plant to mark the first day of spring. Ben was very helpful to this plant newbie, steering me towards plants that would play nice with a beginner plant person and away from those that would be fussy or "pouty." He was super thoughtful in asking me if I had pets who like to nibble; pet-safe plants are easily identifiable in the store by a paw print sticker on the pot. I chose a sweet and pretty anthurium. Ben advised me on watering and the right-sized pot to buy for it, repotted it using the shop's special blend of potting soil, and put a plastic bag over it so it wouldn't get harmed by the cold on the walk to the car. Even if you're not in the market for a new plant, the shop is a fun browse, full of unique items made by local artisans.
