No.6 Scratch Kitchen in South Bend stands out as a charming historic site that offers high-quality dining with a personal touch. During our visit, we opted for a lighter fare, sharing some appetizers and ordering beverages, and were thoroughly impressed by the exceptional quality of the food. One of the highlights of our experience was the staff's willingness and ability to customize a mocktail for my companion. This bespoke drink was not only a delightful surprise but also a testament to the restaurant's dedication to customer satisfaction and creativity. The menu at No.6 Scratch Kitchen changes daily, reflecting the kitchen's commitment to freshness and innovation. Each dish is made from scratch and to order, which ensures that every meal is crafted with care and attention to detail. While this approach to dining does reflect in the pricing, it's a worthwhile consideration for those looking for a unique and high-quality meal experience. Although we only stopped in for snacks and refreshments, the quality of the offerings has us eagerly anticipating a return visit for a full meal. The possibility of a brunch menu in the future adds another exciting reason to revisit. For diners who appreciate fresh, made-from-scratch meals in a setting full of historical charm, No.6 Scratch Kitchen is a top-notch choice in South Bend. Whether you're budget-conscious or looking to indulge, the culinary experience here is sure to impress.

Was kind of a let down… heard great things about it and had high hopes. We arrived as one of the first guests and it took quite some time for our waitress to get our drink order, probably a solid 10 mins. The menu was confusing, they had things listed and it didn’t explain what they were. For example, it just said Kansas City. Which was apparently a steak. We ended up moving to the bar and got great service from the chef. She gave us a delicious app and some great history about the building.. everything on the dinner menu had mash potatoes and a “seasonal veggies” which was all broccoli. It was very good but there was no variety. I felt it was a little chaotic, my husband ordered a beer (which was amazing) but went to order another and there wasn’t any in stock in the bar so one of the kind ladies had to go to the basement, we tried to order a different to save her the trip but that’s was out too. We felt that for the price, we were eating at an over priced chilis. All in all we were let down.

Food was 10/10. Service left a little to be desired. This restaurant has such an appreciation for gastronomy. Chef Amanda was amazing. Very personable while running the restaurant. I sat at the bar, eating the skirt steak and lemon blueberry bread pudding. The food was AMAZING; however, the bartender (not Judy) did not even acknowledge me for the second half of my meal. The first half of my meal, Judy checked in making sure everything was up to par. The second bartender who took over didn’t even acknowledge me. I had to ask Judy for my check otherwise it would’ve taken so long for me to close out my bill. The food here is quite expensive (which I don’t mind) but because of this, the service has to match. Once again, although the service seemed a bit chaotic, the food is so good that it’s worth a try.

This was the absolute worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Expecting it to be busy, I placed a reservation for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. When I arrived, no one greeted me for several minutes. Eventually, I was asked whether we wanted to dine inside or outside. Given that it was 90 degrees, I asked for an inside table and was told there was a 30-minute wait (so much for that reservation I placed - they were taking tables without reservations, so really what's the point of making one?). I agreed to sit outside, and despite there being four open tables, the clueless hostess/server tried to seat me at literally the only table that was in the blazing sun, so I told her I'd be moving to one of the tables in the shade of the building. As an aside, there were several umbrellas placed between the tables, serving no purpose whatsoever because they were not close enough to any table to actually shade it. Someone came to our table at 7:20 to take our drink order. Yes, twenty minutes after my reservation, I had my first interaction with our server. Of course they were out of the cocktail my friend wanted to order. At 7:45, having been seated for nearly 45 minutes, we had still not received our drinks or placed our food order; we hadn't even been given water. (Thankfully, we decided to leave and instead go to LaSalle Kitchen & Tavern which is superior in literally every way.) Everyone else on the patio was complaining that they had either not yet ordered or had been waiting an eternity for their food. Not one table had their food. At one point a server came out holding two drinks and looking around aimlessly with no idea of what table to deliver them to. Everyone had to ask her what they were and finally figure it out for her. You can see that this restaurant was woefully unprepared to open; they are only open three full days a week and two half days and they are hiring for every single position, which obviously means they don't have the staff they needed but decided to open anyway, providing their customers a terrible experience and making sure, at least in my case, that they don't return. This restaurant is kitschy because it's in a converted fire station. That is ALL that it has going for it. Full stop. I have no doubt this place will be closing soon, and it deserves to. I reached out to the general manager about my experience and received no response. What an...

I wish I could give the place a better rating, but I can't. My daughter and friends picked this restaurant for prom night. They called ahead and booked. I had never heard of the place. I asked a few people, and they said they had been there. Upon arrival, I was excited for them. Once inside and the girls were then seated, that's when I was told the restaurant is 21 and over. I had no clue. My comes to me, and she's like mom. I didn't know she never asked me on the phone when I booked. Since it was prom, I guess, and the owner was clearly unhappy about this, she decided to let the girls stay. But then another issue arises because of the spot I have at the bar. Come to find out, the bar was reserved for her favorite couple of friends. I said no problem, I would leave. I had no issue with leaving. The bartender was like, "No way, we can just put an extra chair up." Well, that was unacceptable for the couple once they arrived. I am sitting next to them. I once again offered to leave since the bar seats were reserved. I was told no, please, just stay. This should be fine. Look, I don't make excuses for people. The owner and the couple had a conversation together while sitting next to me. They were so rude that they never even looked my way , nor did the owner. The conversation consisted of I'm sorry this happened but when you come back I will prepare for you a very special meal for the misunderstanding. Now I'm looking at the owner like wow misunderstanding I offered to leave your establishment. She never once addressed me . she did proceed to have an attitude because the couple left. I never did get anything to eat, but I was given the cheese dip. I did purchase a glass of wine. So what I'm saying is the owner of this establishment did not properly inform her staff of asking on the phone if the party was over 21 she did not inform her staff that her favorite couple had spots at the bar. The staff was awesome they accommodated my girls and me I would however like to thank them but to the owner you do not have to worry about me ever coming back to restaurant I will leave that for your...

We arrived at 11:50 a.m. for Sunday brunch. We were greeted quickly and seated. The rest was downhill from there. It took 10 minutes to get water, another 10 to have a server acknowledge us. We received coffee, one in a very small cup. We were told the other cups weren't clean. Two different servers appeared each offering to assist, stating they were trying to handle everything as a team. We asked if they were short staffed and were told two people had called in. During the time we were there we were also told the regular chef was out of town and the owner was cooking. We were advised they were swamped earlier and had more traffic than usual because of the Notre Dame home game, which they didn't expect. Any restaurant in the South Bend area should know customers will increase when there is a home Notre Dame game. After 30 minutes someone took our order. We had to ask for coffee refills the entire time we were there. At one point, after having been there an hour, we saw three employees leave. Apparently, their shift was done, despite numerous customers waiting an extraordinary amount of time for food and service. We watched as others who arrived after us were served their food before us. We observed numerous people get up to go inside to find a server to get more water, pay the bill, etc. We eventually received our food an hour and 45 minutes after we arrived. I ordered the Greek scramble. I received scrambled eggs with feta cheese and sundried tomatoes. Grape tomatoes and fresh spinach were thrown on top. There's really no need to say much more. We were willing to give a local place a shot but not after this. The only positive experience was kindness of the staff. Good for them. . The sad part is, the owner should have realized early on there weren't enough staff to take care of people and closed for the day. Instead, multiple tables sitting around us were unhappy and said they wouldn't be back. Better to give no service than...
