It's important to understand what kind of store DAISO originally was. This shop started out as a “100-yen shop,” meaning that every item was originally available for 100 yen. However, as you know, due to inflation and other factors, it can no longer maintain that pricing. In other words, it now falls into the same category as Dollar General or Dollar Tree. Yet, I feel that the quality of every product exceeds that of Dollar Tree. Additionally, you can buy candy that normally costs $5 in the Japanese market for just $2.25. Unique shop for South Elgin, with household and snack items similar to a dollar store. Prices are in yen, so must frequently refer to conversion charts (posted in every aisle) to know price. Also, some food ingredient lists are in Japanese, not English; challenging if you require a limited diet.

Bargains can be found! Lovely artificial flowers, much cheaper than craft stores. Also some cool ceramic plates, including some shaped like whales! Snack products are better price than other specialty stores...

Love this unique addition to South Elgin! So many cute, unique affordable items - from tableware, stationary, home decor, household things, makeup, and more. Loved the selection of Japanese foods, ramens, snacks, candies, and beverages! Also has some super cute Disney merchandise, including Baymax, which my toddler is all over right now, so those were great finds. The employees were super kind and helpful. Everything was well stocked. Think Five Below pricing almost...
