Dan's Camera City — Local services in South Whitehall Township

Stopped in to purchase an expensive Nikon Lens with some High quality Olympus equipment to sell/trade. The equipment was in excellent shape, in the original boxes when purchased new. The Salesperson, started to go thru each piece using her computer as some sort of guide...The first piece, an Olympus E M1 Mirror-less body, sold for over 2K new, she wrote down $105. Then the lens, a 40-150 2.8 pro lens in the box purchased within the last year for over $1500, still sells for that price new, She wrote down $240. At that point I stopped her from going any further as I felt truly upset and angry at what was transpiring. I let her know how I felt, she made some feeble remark about the values are not her responsibility, and offered for me to speak to a manager. I did. He asked another staff member to review the equipment, offering $650 for the lens, she had just offered $240 for. What if I didn't know better, and accepted the ridiculous offer??? In the end, based on the experience, I decided not to give this business any more of my hard earned money...After treatment like this, why would I reward them by purchasing additional gear??

BEWARE!!! This business remains in a unique situation in the Allentown area....No Competition! You shop there, and because they are the only game in town, you accept what they tell you at face value!!! Don't Do It!! I will never NEVER, step foot into this establishment again, and I will share this story with all I come in contact with! They should be ashamed of themselves!!!

The next day, I made my purchase at shop a bit further down the road, and was treated with kind respect and fair pricing....truly worth the extra time on the road.

I can't say enough great things about the staff at Dan's. Every time I go in I am always treated like the most important customer in the world. Today I stopped din to ask about calibrating lens just hoping to get some information and Steve in the Allentown store told me to go grab my camera and lens from the car and he sat and took the time to review the focusing on each of my three lens and showed me sample images he took and explained to me what my lens and camera were and were not doing well and how my set up would benefit from being calibrated. Instead of just taking all my stuff and being eager to charge me for calibration I might not have even needed, Steve took the time to make sure my money would be well spent. Building that kind of trust is important to me in a retail industry where items are typically very expensive.

I also wanted to look at more compact and portable cameras for traveling and within a few minutes and by asking a few simple questions Steve helped me pick out the Sony A6000. He could have easily tried to sell me on the more expensive top of the line model but he knew I had my professional set up with my Nikon DSLR and that what I really needed in a second body was available at a better price point. Again just knowing that no one at Dan's is going to try and rip you off just to get a sale is such great peace of mind!

I love having a place like this near me where I can go and get real advice and information that I know will not be biased or commission driven. My experience with other sales reps like Jim have all been equally as great.

Dans city camera is my favorite camera/ photography store to go! I got an excellent used lens from them at a great deal, and the quality of their prints is impeccable! They charge a bit over most other places. But the quality of their prints are so fantastic, it's worth the bit extra to pay! I got an order of digital print from them, and I was really taken back from the quality. You don't loose any color or detail whatsoever. From now on This will definitely be where I get prints made up! I always used to get them at the drug store or Walmart, and every time I felt really disappointed bye how much quality was lost. The people behind the counter are always nice, and professional. They don't just work at dans city , they are incredibly knowledgeable themselves, and if you have any questions they are always more than happy to help you! My only issue was that, the gentlemen I bought the lens from was such a good salesman, he up saled me! ( sold me something extra , that I hadn't gone in there for). I'm just joking around though, I don't actually consider that a negative thing! I'm pretty difficult to up sell, so kudos to him! I give this...
