Avoid at All Costs — Unprofessional Staff and Management with Alarming Behavior
I recently had an encounter with Southborough Golf Course that was so egregious I feel compelled to warn others.
My son was at the course with a group of friends. From the outset, the desk clerk "Ken" gave them attitude during check-in, not just a gruff tone, but a clear lack of courtesy or patience. The boys chose to let it go and kept things moving. Later, while waiting for me near the putting green, my son (admittedly not aware chipping wasn't allowed there) chipped a ball. Rather than simply informing him of the rule, Ken chose to make a scene, approaching with a sign and sarcastically asking, “Hey, let’s play a game. It’s called can you read?
When I picked up my son and heard the story on the drive home, I did an about face and brought him back to the course to hear Ken’s side. Unfortunately, Ken’s response to me started as him being sweet as a pie but quickly became hostile as I inquired parts of his account than what had occurred with the boys. He then gave me attitude—confirming my son’s version of events without me needing to ask much. I told him that this kind of behavior doesn’t set a good example for young golfers or anyone, and that being older doesn’t entitle someone to speak to people with contempt. I then used strong language in return, not something I regret given how he was acting.
What’s worse is that when the incident was brought to the attention of management, they defended the conduct rather than reviewing the objective video footage that would have clearly shown what actually occurred.
Despite the abundance of similar complaints easily found across public review platforms -many citing rude, aggressive, and inappropriate behavior from staff, Southborough appears to double down on its position rather than course-correct. This suggests a culture of dysfunction that starts at the top and trickles down.
I’ve never golfed here myself, and based on this experience, I happily never will. To boot, the course itself is in terrible shape—neglected, poorly maintained.
This place has all the hallmarks of a facility coasting on complacency and low standards, and treating patrons with disrespect seems to be par for the course (pun intended). I encourage others to take their time and money elsewhere. There are far better options in the region where courtesy, professionalism, and basic human decency are...
Read moreRelatively nice course, decent value. Good meetup location for me and some of my buddies, but have to say the customer service was awful. We played the front 9 with carts and came in to ask if we could play another 9. The guy working the counter said "Walking." I said no we would like to use the carts again and he responded louder with "WALKING!" Eventually another guy came out and explained the carts were dead from a tournament and we would need to walk, fine, no problem. If he had explained that rather than just repeating "WALKING" over and over again I would have been fine. The same rude guy from behind the counter told us we needed to be done by 7:45pm. We flew through the back 9 and were finishing the last hole when the same guy came flying out of the clubhouse on a cart at 7:40 and told us to "PICK THEM UP!" We asked if we could finish the hole and he said again "PICK THEM UP!" One of my friends went inside and told him that we liked the course, and the value and it was a good meetup spot for us but we would not be returning because he was so rude. He tried to claim he gave us "10 extra minutes." We looked at our watches and it was 7:47. There are much better places to go in the area if you want to play...
Read moreI've played this course well over 100 times it was the course that I learned to play golf on the price is fantastic for 9 holes of golf the greens are in the best shape that I can remember in the 14 years I have played here the tee box's do get chewed up and the fairways get stressed in the heat of the summer overall, the layout is challenging enough to have fun but easy enough to make this the perfect course to learn on and start your golf journey and personally I have never had any issues with the staff always been respectful at the least overall I think it is a great value for what you play and is a place that feels like home to me they only loose a star for not being in top condition all the time but it is to be expected on a course that cost 25 dollars to play and rely on natural rain fall for...
