The customer service here is absolutely terrible. I was looking to purchase a Traeger smoker/grill for my husband for our wedding anniversary and called ahead to ensure they had the one I was looking for, and I asked if they offered a military discount (normally I don’t care, but every little bit helps when you’re looking at an $800 grill). The manager told me yes, they offer 10%. So I go to pick up the grill and a nice cover for it, but when the manager rung up the grill, he said it’s technically on sale- even though the price is NOT discounted, but because you get a free bag of $18 wood pellets with purchase. As such, he could not give me the 10% discount, as stated on the phone. I offered to pay for the free wood chips, and get the 10% off instead (save $80 instead of $18) but was told there was nothing they could do. I’d have to pay more or wait a few weeks until the grill was no longer “on sale.” The problem is that my anniversary was that weekend, and I had family in town and needed a larger grill. So waiting a few weeks wasn’t really an option. The manager insisted that there was nothing they could do— I even asked to maybe just get a store credit or gift card for $60 to make up the for the price difference (even though at this point I didn’t want to go to an Ace Hardware ever again). Again the manager said no, and condescendingly told me that he needed to be fair and giving me the discount wouldn’t be fair to other customers. Another employee also stated, “sorry, Theres nothing we can do, I get it, my husband is military too.” First off, I am the service member, NOT my husband but thanks for adding insult to injury and making it seem like I’m desperate for a discount that belongs to my husband not me. And second, you guys are supposed to be a small, family owned business, you told me over the phone I would receive 10% off, but now you’re telling me if I want to give you $800 for a grill I have to come back in a few weeks?!?

So when I got to the parking lot, I called the Seven Lakes Ace Hardware and spoke to Gray, their manager. He not only honored the discount, but explained to me in depth how to assemble the grill, loaded it into my car for me, and also gave me a free dry rub and BBQ sauce.
