Some of the unfavorable reviews are from three years ago. We now have a new director who is so passionate and dedicated and doing wonders for the shelter. The euthanasia rate used to be over 50%, but has now dropped significantly and we are moving toward no-kill numbers. I am volunteer there and I feel like part of a family. Volunteers are welcomed and helping immensely with off-site adoptions for dogs and cats. We also have cat foster barn which has helped us save countless cats and all of these cats are taken to Petsmart in Rogers for adoption. The reality is the shelter is underfunded in a city where homeless pets are not the highest priority to say the least. There is one council member who jokes about "gassing" the animals. Unacceptable. There is also a demographic of people who don't know they need to spay or neuter and let their animals roam around with no id/microchip. You can't imagine the kinds of people who dump their animals for all sorts of reasons. So, the intake is still too high. I know the shelter is not perfect and could be better. It's not the prettiest place and some of the low ratings here are very valid. It's a constant challenge especially with the workload and low staff wages to attract and keep great employees. In spite of the obstacles and challenges, there are some very nice, good, animal-loving people that work there and things have gotten a lot better! The ladies at the front are so sweet and some of the attendants taking care of the animals are really super people. There is still some turnover though. Anyway, we have a Facebook Page "Springdale Animal Services" which shows our super cute animals and the specials and adoption events. If you are wanting to help animals, please consider volunteering with us and help us make Springdale a better place for...
ย ย ย Read more9 years ago, my boyfriend, now husband, took me into the animal shelter looking for a German Shepherd! We did a meet and greet with a couple mixed breeds, and i just didn't click with them! The lady at the front desk asked me if i was looking for something specific, i said i was really looking for a German Shepherd to train as a service dog! Her and her coworker exchanged a look that i caught onto and excitedly asked about! She told me then that they had a 10 month old GSD come in just that morning, so not to get too excited yet because they had to have it for 10 days before offering it up for adoption! I asked if i could just see it, she said i couldn't get in with him, and that was ok! One of the workers lead me around the corner, i saw him, and he saw me, and that's all she wrote!! She had me fill out an application so I'd be first in line if the 10 days came around and he hadn't been claimed! We went through the entire adoption process, and took him home! Y'all, this dog had been more amazing than anyone could ever imagine!!! He didn't work out as the kind of service dog i was looking to train, but he's been an irreplaceable member of our family and lives!! We now have a farm/ranch in Idaho and it's truly his happy place!! We've also had 2 children since adopting Grizzly and he's the perfect big brother!! Thank you SO...
ย ย ย Read moreWarning to all!!!! Do not adopt from this animal shelter. As a first time adopter I didnโt realize all of the red flags. One of the most unprofessional places to get an animal. No follow up. I adopted a dog who had a preexisting injury who needed an emergency vet visit and antibiotics the night I got her. That was not disclosed. Nor was any other information. I called them worried it may need surgery and that I would not be able to afford that, I was told to just bring her back but I did not want to do that then! After socializing her it was apparent she had severe dog aggression issues. Since I was not aware of this, I asked if I could bring her back, since it was not working out. They refused. No other shelter will take her now. Nor any rescues. They told me it is my responsibility to train or euthanize. Iโve had this dog less than 2 months , 7 weeks. I think how they handled this situation was extremely unprofessional. I understand they have a lot of dogs and need to find them homes, but many shelters will say if it doesnโt work out to bring the dog back, this is not the case here. If you do find a dog you like here, make sure it has been temperament tested, and observe it with other dogs. Also thoroughly check the animal for any preexisting...
