Down To Game — Local services in Starkville

I have tried to frequent this place. I really want a local shop that I can enjoy. I have purchased from them many times trying to support them. But this new final fantasy set has shown us how shitty our local game shops really are. My wife went in to buy me the final fantasy M:tG commander decks on release weekend. She was charged DOUBLE retail price. Literally the weekend that the product was unboxed from their distributor. She didn’t know how much they were supposed to be. I called them and asked why. The guy that answered said ‘it is a collectible and that was market value’. Well, not on release weekend and not on something you just unboxed from your distributor. If you want to sell at inflated marked up online prices, then sell online. No reason for me to ever walk in there again. They scan every single card, even from their bulk bins. Then they have a minimum charge for each card. Anything they sell you can get on TCG player since they use their prices on almost everything anyway, unless it is something in their bulk, then you have to pay their up charge because they have a store and are not online only. I’ve ordered an expansion for a board game through Down to Game and told me that they’ll call once they get the item. 3 months later, I go back and they told me “we’re having a problem with the supplier, we’ll call you when they give me a solution.” Another 4 months later, still nothing. In this past 7 months, I haven’t gotten any call regarding to my order or any update. Do yourself a favor and spend extra $20 and buy from Amazon if merchandise is not in store. I’m getting my money back.

Another note: just called the store to see what’s up, the owner told me that the supplier doesn’t have the game that I’ve ordered. Keep in mind it’s been 4 months since I’ve checked in with the shop. I was visiting Columbus from out of town and drove to Starkville to check out this store to see if they had any good tabletop games. The selection of tabletop games for purchase here was so so and their was a heavy emphasis on collectible card games and miniatures. So if you are into CCG and miniatures then you'd probably love this place. The prices on the tabletop games were also very expensive compared to my local game store. They had an excellent library of tabletop games that you could utilize for in store play and that was great to see.
