The question for everyone usually is not whether or not you want to get one but is it worth it?
For me, I wanted a cabinet that felt like it would stand the test of time. I wanted a cabinet that my my wife would not get annoyed looking at and would look like a piece of art. The whole machine feels sturdy and well built. The buttons are quality. The artwork is quality, speakers are quality. My wife and sisters in law are impressed. That should speak more than any guy being impressed.
Many recommend DIY, but there's no way I could have built a machine of this quality myself. So for me it was definitely worth it.
Couple of other notes is that the technical support is second to none. Emails about anything are responded very quickly. Dave knows his product inside and out. It is very nice to have the support regarding even the silliest of questions.
So cons? The major con for me was that delivery was a little bit of a headache for me. The delivery package itself was excellently crated and wrapped, but I work long hours to afford this thing. I had to coordinate (beg) with family members and use Task Rabbit for help twice. The shipping courier was not able to deliver on the weekend or after hours. Nor was the courier able to delivery in the house (white glove service). Dave said he had some issues with white glove service, but it still would have been nice to have after hours delivery. Likely not under his control, but given that I paid this much for the machine, I probably would have been willing to pay a little more for either white glove or after hours delivery.
Other minor nitpicks, I'm glad I didn't get the Tron stick as I don't think it added too much to my Megacade; however, I don't think I should have sprung for the four way joystick as I personally don't notice a difference between the eight way and 4-way joystick.
I also shouldn't have bought the wheel. The wheel is not integrated into the Megacade, which is not a big deal, nor did I expect this. But the wheel that you get is a cheap PXN V3 pro Chinese entry level racing wheel with suction cups. This means that I guess you attach the wheel to a free area on the console, which is a little janky. I understand that you don't need a SIM racing Simucube racing wheel to play Outrun, but maybe a Logitech g923 would have been a better pairing.
Overall though I'm very happy with my Megacade and don't...
Read moreI just realized I never wrote a review for these guys. The Megacade is what I have. It's not cheap, but if you are a video game enthusiast and grew up playing all these, you can't help but love this. I expect to use this system for many, many years, so it's worth it. The overall artwork and craftsmanship of my unit is phenomenal. It makes my game room look like a pro setup. The number of games is truly mind-boggling. If it's even possible, it's almost too much. It would probably take someone a lifetime, and I'm not kidding, to play what seems like 100k games. There are a few games that might need tech support or a little Googling to get running correctly, but that's to be expected. This is MAME/Windows-based emulation. If you want perfect, go spend $50k or $100k for perfect and you will get maybe 100 games total. And you'd have those undersized machines with the add-on risers. No thanks. The Megacade is HUGE. Four full-sized adults can comfortably stand around mine playing Gauntlet. I do need to spend some time getting my "Tron" joystick, spinner, trackball, and light guns working with some of the games, but I'm sure if I can't, these pros will assist me. There might be some other good outfits out there, but I did a LOT of research before settling on Extreme Home Arcades. No regrets. I will say one thing. If you're looking for the system to be super user-friendly for young kids like a Wil or Switch, no deal. This needs a bit of adult supervision to switch...
Read moreIf you are looking for a single purchase to have the best all included retro station to play all of your favorite arcade and retro console games, THIS IS IT. I ordered a Ultimate Pedestal arcade and have had it for about a week now. The customization options are really limitless, the customer support is top notch, the quality of materials and components are great, the cable management is a 10/10, the shipping/packing met the price of the machine, and most of all everything has been what I expected and even more. I will say, this just like any other modern arcade emulator is not plug and play. While yes many things will work right out of the box with ease (so much in terms of configuration are already done for you here) be prepared to do some troubleshooting and learning. This is ultimately a PC and game emulation their will never be a perfect option. There is TONS of information out their from the EHA team, and on the internet in general and has not been hard to find any solution.
One of the things I looked at while looking into which company to do business with was price, and its no secret EHA machines are pricier. But it is also the same reason why their reviews are better. Its a quality product built the way YOU want. Even if you are big on modifying your own arcade machines I would urge you to get the base model as a perfect starting point to...
