After having done Mount Snow with Snowmobile Vermont tours, this certainly is the better choice. The tour was great. It's offsite from the Stowe trails and tours the Mount Mansfield State Park. It scales the mountainous terrain and they also include a flat open field where you are allowed to open it up. It takes almost the full 2 hours from start to finish. Just make sure you make a reservation. This way if they close early due to lack of snow, you will be advised. We were probably the last tour of the season today.
Additionally, which is why I rank them only 2 stars, was the tour guides. While they demonstrate and explain the informational safety video, there is some additional information they do not disclose that we found out the hard way. They say don't listen to the videos recommended spacing and only keep a 2-3 snowmobile distance. Well if you do this, and the tour guide does not give the required hand signals for slowing down and stopping, you WILL be responsible for the damage if you hit. The tour guides are required to signal you of the need to slow down and another to stop, otherwise, how else would you know what they are going to do? Yes, just like a car, there are brake lights on the snowmobiles, but the guides did not use their brakes, thus no additional signaling of their intent.
In our incident, while coming down the icy mountain and due to lack of snow, we were passing another tour group and our guide decided to stop unannounced. The whole trip, he would signal to slow down and we would pass other tour groups or pedestrians/dogs at a slow speed. But not this time. The guide slowed and stopped without signal or notice, causing a rear end collision and some minor damage to the fenders. While they didn't charge the full $350 deductible, they charged us $100 for the "resin" to fill the scratches. While we explained what happened, they said we followed too close and just like a car, we should always have control and anticipate the person in front of us reaction. Doesn't seem fair, especially since this is most of our first times riding on a snowmobile, but apparently this is fair practice for them.
So be extra cautious and make sure you write down any and all prior damage on the sheet before you leave to go on the tour. Funny, they said don't worry about writing down scratches in the paint or stickers yet that was most of our damage and we...

Read moreFabulous experience in every way! I booked my tour with Pete a week in advance, and casually mentioned that I was going on a snowmobile trip in Quebec so wanted to practice a bit. When I showed up a week later for the excursion, the excursion organizer Steve -- who had been up until 4AM the night before grooming the trails -- pulled me out of the group and hooked me up with a phenomenal guide named Jason, and they planned my tour specifically to help me prepare for my upcoming trip to Quebec. I could not believe that the message of my trip had even gotten passed along, but these guys truly went above and beyond to give me a great experience that would help me be ready. Jason -- who was also there until the wee hours the night before grooming the trails -- was an amazing guide. He's obviously a great rider with a ton of experience, and he gave me an incredibly tailored intro to snowmobiling. This is a truly professional outfit that puts safety and preparation first, but still offers an all-around amazing time. I could not recommend these guys any more strongly. You will absolutely not be...
