We had the best 2 night stay at the Little River Inn! This was our first time to Stowe and also first stay at a bed and breakfast so we weren't sure what to expect. We were very pleased with our stay and will definitely be recommending to friends and family. It felt great to support a local small business versus a chain hotel or large resort.
Rooms: The photos of the rooms on their website are completely up to date. Our room was modern and the entire place was beautifully decorated, especially the common space living area. We took advantage of their bookshelf filled with books, games, and puzzles. My partner and I played battleship in our room. At one point I saw people doing a puzzle in the common room. I was happy there was a microwave, fridge and keurig in the common room since there are not any in the residential rooms. Our stay was during the winter so we didn't need to use the fridge but was happy it was there. They also supply wine glasses and a bottle opener if you may need one.
As stated, our stay was during the winter so there was universal heating throughout the building/rooms. There was a portable fan in the closet which we utilized as we are hot sleepers. Since you can't adjust the temperature for your room, the fan was a great addition for those that might need it.
Mattresses were very comfortable! Better than most hotels I have stayed in.
We stayed in Room 1 which has 2 queen beds. With only 2 people in this room we were comfortable but I think it would be rather tight with 4 adults. There's not much room to put your belongings but there is a dresser, closet, and hooks on the wall to hang up jackets.
Room 1 is also off of the lobby, which at first was concerning because I thought noise might be an issue but it never was. The lobby isn't utilized for much other than checking in. There is a hallway that accesses the other rooms and also the building so the other guests would use that entrance/exit, not the one off the lobby.
Breakfast: Phil and Kim had two breakfast seatings: 7:30 am and 8:30 am. Make sure to sign up early if you want a specific time, especially if they are at capacity (which they were for our first night). They take into consideration dietary restrictions/preferences. The first day was french toast with sausage and the second was veggie/egg frittata with potatoes. Very delicious!
Location: The inn is on a main road but not too high traffic were we felt unsafe. Stowe is a small town so there's not much traffic after the ski day is over anyways. We were in close proximity to "downtown" Stowe and about a 15 minute drive from the mountain. While we saw lots of people walking throughout the town, I will say the road from the Little River Inn to downtown area has some curves that might be dangerous to walk on: cars might not be able to see pedestrians, especially at night.
I want to add that I think this would be a great place to stay with another couple or a group of friends. You could each have your own room then utilize the common spaces for...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at The Little River Inn for 5 nights this July while our sons and grandchildren were sharing a nearby rental home in Stowe. We could not have been more pleased with our selection of Little River Inn for our stay. The location is ideal and walkable to Stowe Village traversing a scenic river-side path. Owners Phil and Kim meticulously maintain the property which is clean, quiet, private, and functional. The common areas including dining and living/great room are comfortably furnished and conducive to remote work with reliable internet connection. The backyard grounds are expansive, well-manicured, and include a spacious hot tub which I found quite enjoyable. Phil and Kim's breakfasts are exceptional and typically included Phil's superbly cooked main dish accompanied by breakfast potatoes, fruit, croissant, and for the occasional surprise, Kim's baked cookies or muffins. Without hesitation, we would look forward to a future stay at this exceptional bed and breakfast inn.||Rooms5.0 Service5.0 Location5.0||Hotel highlights: Quiet||Rooms: Six room choices available. Read moreMy wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Little River Inn, and it truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the attention to detail that the owners clearly put into every aspect of the property.
The rooms were spotless, well-appointed, and extremely comfortable — the kind of place where you immediately feel at home. The bed was on the softer side for my personal taste, but that’s simply a matter of preference and in no way a knock against the accommodations themselves. Everything else, from the quality of the linens to the thoughtful touches in the room, made our stay relaxing and stress-free.
Breakfast deserves a special mention. I can honestly say it was one of the best inn or hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. It felt much more like a homemade meal than the typical “hotel breakfast,” which really set the tone for the rest of our day.
The location is another highlight. The inn is tucked away just enough to give you peace and quiet, but it’s still within easy walking distance of downtown Stowe. That balance — close to everything, yet away from the noise and busyness — makes it the perfect home base for exploring the area.
Overall, our experience was nothing short of wonderful. We left feeling relaxed, well cared for, and already talking about when we might come back. We would return to the Little River Inn in a heartbeat — and most...
