Grocery Mart — Local services in Sturgis

From my experience, this is the better grocery store of the two in Sturgis, SD. Not happy with the Sky-High prices at Lynn's Dakotamart, I stopped by the Grocery Mart yesterday.

Prices are a bit better, and they do have Sale items. My only disappointment, and a Big one.. was the Meat Department. I bought two big Pork Shoulders to smoke and make some NC style pulled pork. On sale for $1.99lb - Nice. But also needed a half-dozen NY Strip Steaks.

There was a bunch of strip steaks in the cooler, but they were all cut 1" or less thick !!! Seriously folks? Those would be breakfast steaks, NOT Grilling Steaks! If the steak is not at least 2" thick, you cannot get a good, crusty sear on the grill, while keeping the body of the steak medium-rare. And Butcher worth his salt woul...

Prices and deals are good...but....the hours aren't posted on the door where you can see them...went in on a saturday...online it said hours were 7am to 9pm...walked in the open sign was still on...it was 8pm and there was still a couple people checking out...was approached by an employee not long after entering and told to finish up cuz they were closed...not 1 of the 2 employees at the front said anything about getting ready to close to us...just stared as we walked in....should have the hours posted for people to see....employees couldn't get out of there fast enough...most likely won't be going there again...will take our business to...

We first went to the larger grocery store in town and a few days later visited the Grocery Mart. The Grocery Mart is now the only grocery store that I will go to. The store is very clean, well laid out and the employees are very friendly and helpful. The day we were there they were actually cleaning the tops of the refrigerator units. The employees are perhaps a bit more mature than the other store in town, but their experience and knowledge is much appreciated. Don't be fooled by the exterior, it's not fancy, but once you go in you will be glad...
