Read moreAs far as man made lakes go, this one is very nice! It's quite large, being made by the damming up of the Chattahoochee River (the inspiration for the Deliverance movie). With that comes lots of small islands and hundreds of nice little coves to hang out in. As long as it isn't a major holiday, since 90% of Atlanta send to be there at those times, you can get pretty private! I take a small boat or I'm with friends that have boats. This lake is looong and deep, and 50 ft boats are not uncommon. Even bigger houseboats! It's great for kayaking, jet skis, paddle boards - all shirts of watersports. Even scuba! There are a couple of submerged towns caused by the dam, and some unfortunate stories to go with. That's why you may hear some parts of the lake are haunted
Just visited Lake Lanier this past Sunday evening, and it was a great way to wind down the weekend! Even though it was late afternoon, there were still plenty of people out enjoying the water, but it wasn't overly crowded.
Saw a good mix of boats cruising around, from pontoon boats with families relaxing to speedboats zipping by. The wake from some of them made for fun little waves. And there were quite a few jet skis still out, especially around the open areas, making some impressive splashes.
