This is about the donation and pick-up side of the business. Getting an 'immediate' appointment for PU was not good so I'm glad I started early and planned ahead. But once the appointment was made and the day/timeframe confirmed, Habitat was good with their window of time and calling in advance to estimate time of arrival. They took nearly all of my items. Would not take dining room chairs w/o a table or my area rugs due to pets. One glitch is that my list of items I planned to donate 'changed'. When the driver arrived, he was hesitant about taking the load I had because it didn't 'match' my original appointment list of items. It was clear this was a 'logistics' issue and I did feel somewhat errant about this. But I noted that I didn't have half the stuff I thought I would (I was able to sell it) and what I did have was smaller and easily 'swapped'. One thing I would recommend is the ability to update the list at their website. This feature does not exist. While their appointment confirmation note says you can make a change, it leaves it to the driver to determine if he/she can handle the change. It seems to me a 'day of' change could leave the consumer with items and no time to find alternate pick up solutions. Example...10 dining room chairs! It is a good cause and I hope the items will go...
Read moreThe ReStore on 101 Greyback Road in Summerville is an absolute hidden gem! Having moved from California two years ago, I was familiar with Goodwill but had never heard of ReStore before. Now that I live just five minutes away, I stop by almost every day on my way to work, and I’ve found some of the best treasures here! From unique dishes, pillows, and glassware to kids' toys, vintage books, beautiful jewelry, and home décor—there’s always something special. The quality is fantastic, and many of these items aren’t even sold in stores anymore. I’ve also come across some incredible antique furniture, though I’ve learned the hard way that if you love something, grab it right away—it might be gone the next day! Beyond the great finds, the staff is what makes this place even better. They are always friendly, welcoming, and truly make the shopping experience enjoyable. You can tell the store is well-managed, and the customer service is outstanding.
Plus, I love that Habitat for Humanity runs this store, supporting meaningful programs that help people in need. Highly recommend...
Read moreSpeaking on behalf of my elderly mother, she had a truly upsetting experience with Habitat for Humanity on Greyback Rd. The way they treated elderly members of the community was disgraceful. An elderly person was being dismissed and talked down to by a specific staff member, which is completely unacceptable. The lack of empathy and respect for seniors was shocking.
To make matters worse, when tried to address the situation, an employee refused to give his name and would not allow me to speak to the manager about his outlandish behavior. It’s incredibly unprofessional and concerning that someone working for a nonprofit organization would act this way, especially toward vulnerable individuals.
I had always thought highly of Habitat for Humanity, but this experience has completely changed my perception. It’s clear they need to reevaluate their staff and how they treat the community, especially the elderly. I would love to have an opportunity to speak to manager at the Greyback...
