Today was our Christmas Gift Exchange luncheon and this location was picked. Walking up to the building, the area was beautiful, with nice landscaping. The inside was very pleasant as well. Our waitress was Tye. She was okay upon greeting us but that was it. We ordered our food and upon receiving it, my coworker ordered her fried shrimp with loaded fries and the shrimp were either fried for an extended period of time or the cooking grease was old. At the first glance, her, myself, and 2 other coworkers noticed the dark color of the shrimp. She decided to taste 1 shrimp and decided that she did not want her meal at all. The order came with about 8 to 10 shrimp. She got the attention of Tye and told her that she did not want her food because it was burnt. Tye asked if she wanted another order and my coworker said no. When we all received our checks, my coworker received her check for $28.00. Even though she DID NOT eat her food. She asked Tye about the check and Tye said really snarky, "well they said you still have to be charged because you ate it!". My coworker asked, "how is tasting my food, eating it?" Tye basically gave an "oh well" response. Due to this being a work related event, my coworker decided to pay and leave without further incident. I am highly disappointed in my experience seeing her being treated that way. Due to this unfair treatment, I will NOT be returning. When my coworker complained about the food initially, Tye should have stated that she will still be charged and things would have went differently. Not only that, a manager or supervisor did not come and address the sent back food. Someone of high status in the restaurant should care enough to personally address and possibly find a resolution when there is an issue with food being sent back. Thank you for the...
Read moreI played Southwood for the first time in June. Now I am 2 months into my membership at this club. First, Austin, Michael, and Rodney have been so welcoming since day 1, and they have treated me like royalty (I’m not special so I imagine they treat every one like this which is great). The cart girls are very nice, and the bartenders are very friendly. I haven’t tried the food yet (besides a hotdog on the turn) but it smells amazing when I’m there.
Now, for the course. I have played every course from Quincy to St. James Bay, and this is by far the best greens in this area. I live across the street from Summerbrook and I choose to drive 40 minutes to play at Southwood, and I’ve heard this from other golfers as well. The fairways are usually very clean and for the most part the bunkers are upkept but that FL rain can really erode the steep ones. The picture above is from hole 9 facing away from the clubhouse. The greens are CRISP! I have played this course 20 times in 2 months.
Added bonuses is a very maintained grass driving range and three different practice areas for putting, chipping and pitching. They are also installing a Top Golf style range like what you would see at courses designed by Robert Trent Jones or Pete Dye and so far it looks like a lot of fun.
The club is very family friendly so it’s a little more relaxed then some of the more expensive clubs around town but I’m not a scratch golfer so it doesn’t bother me when the kids are having fun at the club. Also live music every week.
All in all I refuse to play any where else in town because I’m a finance guy and I go for the biggest bang for my buck. That’s this...
Read more10/10 clubhouse and pro shop 0/10 groundskeeping crew Everything about this course is wonderful, from the store and clubhouse staff. The manager Brad who talked with me in the dining room was so professional and well educated. However the maintenance workers are so loud, obnoxious and rude it ruins your whole experience. Sitting under trees and having conversations too almost hitting my golf cart with me in it on a front loader because the gentlemen was on the phone. The water coolers around the course are filled with ice and barely water by 10am, which is a sign of laziness. Bunkers are rough and a major fungal problem on the greens indelibly proves the point that duties are neglected. New tee boxes look planted, thank god because the old ones looked like they hadn’t been changed since the course first opened. Southwood is a great place to come bring your family to eat and hang out but golf wise aside from the carts, pro shop staff, friendly rangers and cart barn attendants you’ll be highly disappointed after spending 60 dollars...
