I Went to the Downriver campus with my daughter to speak with an advisor about changing her classes. There we were approached by a lady in the office, Kerri Barnett-Novack, she spoke in a degrading, condescending tone at us from the start of the conversation. As I was trying to understand what we did wrong this woman has the nerve to tell me "you must know more about advising than I do, so please tell me what can I do for you who knows everything." At this point I did get upset as I couldn't believe this is who people are sent to for advice?!?! I wouldn't want someone like that working for me, or trying to help students get into the right classes. She is definitely not a people person and I would be ashamed that she worked for me. She continued to throw low blows to me as my daughter was trying to add/drop classes. She threatened to call security, who by the way never came to her aid, as i obvuoisly wasnt doing anything wrong. She didn't like the fact I was writing this review while we were still standing there. She was so childish after I started my google review she wrote her own report for the security that never came to her aid. She then proceeded to have someone else come out to help us. I was totally PLEASED with the other lady who helped us, Ms. Ella Lynch. Ms.Lynch not only helped my daughter but she explained a whole lot more to my daughter. She even changed her degree for her. So if ANYONE needs advising at the downriver campus please ask for Ms. Lynch, she'll help you in the right way, she'll LISTEN to the student and THEIR needs, not rush the student out of there. As for Kerri she needs an attitude adjustment or at least a class in how to treat and talk to people who come in for help. She should be reevaluated as an employee in that department, or at least have a refresher course on how to help, and...

The office staff are absolutely horrible and rude. They are irritated and act inconvenienced by students. They just push you from person to person with no help or answers. You have to be persistent and advocate for yourself and even be pushy to get any help at all. If you have any other options go to a different school!! The worst part is there are no consequences for how they treat people except for students just giving up. Maybe we would have a more educated downriver community if the staff here weren’t so horrendous.

Here is a great example of my struggle with them:

I took the day off work to take my Accuplacer because I need to register in 3 days for summer. The website says testing hours are 9-5 and give yourself 2 hours. I took pto and got off work at 2, I studied for an hour then went up there at 3 to take it. First, myself and 2 other people walked in at once, before we were even able to see the sign in sheet someone with a rude expression said “SIGN IN PLEASE!” I go sit down and wait and am completely ignored for a few mins, no one would even make eye contact with me.. then someone finally decided to act like I exist and when I said I was there to take the Accuplacer.. I WAS TURNED AWAY , THEY SAID THE WEBSITE ISN’T ACCURATE AND "THE GUY" LEAVES AT 3!! I have to work everyday 9:30-6 so I'm going to have to take MORE time off work...

I don't even know where to start. There staff is rude as ever. When I first got here they treat you as if you are retarded even though it was my first time ever going to college and puzzled about alot of things. The professors are great. Now that financial aid is where they get you at. If you go to school for the amount of 6 credits which is 2 classes you are considered part time and they award you 1,480....Now your tuition is IDK because it depends on the class. My tuition was $735,my book voucher is $600. That's subtracted from 1480,I have about $145 from my financial aid which takes 2 weeks to process after the refunds are released. Terrible, They don't tell you any of this when you sign up for them. They don't say this at all. Please ask all the questions in the world. It's like this is a set up. We are forced to take out a loan to survive in school, people cutting hours to go to school, gas, work, kids, And it's like ridiculous! I sure made a mistake !Don't you, When you hear Wayne community...
