I had such high hopes for this place. I would ride past it often as my friend nostalgically mentions the area...
Yesterday, it was recommended for fresh produce by another friend that lives in the area (this is during the pandemic). Now that I mention that, I'm even more disappointed with my experience.
Some of the set up kind of reminded me of a Pete's that one would see on 87th Street in Chicago (one west near Ashland, one east near Stony Island). But they have much less variety of produce in addition to it not seeming as fresh. (Admittedly, possibly due to the pandemic.) I didn't like the smell of the place and the floors were filthy. This was especially concerning at a time when cleanliness is paramount.
I was terribly uncomfortable. Out of kindness to my friend and mindful to time I had available to complete my "rounds" to stores (before returning to my "shelter at home" state), I picked up a few items. I hope to never go there, again, though. I say hope because, I will do what's necessary in a pinch.
UPDATE: The produce I bought was deliciously fresh. I did not like the pork & turkey sausage at all. It actually tasted "funky" 𤢠(for lack of a better descriptionš)... It still holds, however, that I'd return only in an urgent/...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a Chicago native, there will never be another iconic place like Moo & Oink, but this store comes close to both the feel and the excellent selection abundance that Moo & Oink offered. My Grandpa and Auntie suggested I come here. Iāve flown past on the freeway and never bothered coming here. But one time is all it took for me to wanna come BACK. Fabulous butchery. Anything you need or want or donāt need but want anyway. A battalion of smoked meats. A forest of every kinda fresh greens your soul could long for. Thereās a hot food section that had BANGINā Jamaican oxtails and rice. Whew, Jesus. If you come here, you betta have a cooler or plentiful trunk space. Thereās a lot to be had. And bought. Great staff too. Even if youāre not from around here, come to this place to stock up on all your Chicago goodies. You can get stuff here to make anything you want. They even got frozen pizza puffs. Yeah,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe lines to check out are always speedy, but the lines to pick up meat are always really long!!! I've been hesitant about shopping here as of late, because I've been finding my beef much cheaper at other stores. Here 80/20 ground chuck is $3.99 and the 73/27 ground beef is $3.49. I've found it fresher and much cheaper ($2.78) a pound at Sam's Club, Jewel and another meat market. That's a huge price difference when you purchasing 15 or more pounds like I do... Also the prices for other things like chicken are a little unreasonable. I use to only shop here and get my sides and other staple goods at Wal-Mart now I barely shop here unless they have...
