Disappointing Experience with Appliance / Customer Service Departments - ongoing updates
I generally love Costco, but they left me with a $2k lemon. I purchased an LG all-in-one washer dryer, which had multiple issues. I missed the return window by two weeks due to frequent work travel, and now I’m stuck in a loop between Costco customer service and Sears tech support. The service tech confirmed parts needed aren’t available, but Costco refuses to process a return, instead scheduling another pointless service call.
This machine doesn’t do its job, and I feel abandoned by Costco’s customer service. The machine is a great concept, but clearly not fully developed. I’m asking Costco to process a return and provide store credit for a reliable machine, but they keep passing me around departments. Given the newness of the product and that I was close to the return window, it feels intentional to build a stronger case against me. I hope this review helps others avoid the same issues.
UPDATE: 8/16/24 A Sears tech visited today after an automated booking. He found no parts or notes in the system, confirming my suspicion that Costco is running me through a time-wasting cycle. My machine is faulty, and Costco is playing corporate games. I will be filing complaints with the BBB, FTC, and others. I just want a working machine, but Costco’s process seems designed to make me give up.
UPDATE: 8/22/24 Despite meeting all installation guidelines, my LG unit still doesn’t function properly. Costco insists on yet another service visit, but previous ones have resolved nothing. I believe both Costco and LG are deferring to avoid returns, even after weeks of ongoing issues. I’ve lost faith in Costco’s customer service and just want to return this defective machine for store credit. This experience has severely shaken my trust in Costco.
UPDATE: 9/11/24 The machine continues to fail and is now developing more issues, recently locking up and apparently overheating. Costco informed me that management wants to set up a fourth appointment, but every time they schedule a service call and "order a part," they find that no part is available. This loop has been ongoing since the first issue. While my contact at Costco seems genuinely trying to help, I believe she’s working within a system designed to wear customers down into submission. I strongly recommend avoiding purchasing appliances from Costco based on...
Read moreVisiting with friends that have a membership? Don't. Don't leave home without cash or VISA debit card or it'll be a wasted trip. Dumb policy they chose to wait until the end to notify me about as I'm checking out.
Your little sticker sign on the door saying you accept whatever cards and tap to pay needs to specify your other obscure merchant processing rules.
No one should waste their money here, especially when half the items are the same price as King Soopers and the electronics are overpriced. Not worth it to save a few bucks on wine when I can't even get credit card points.
You've all wasted 2 hours of my time (billable work hours) by not posting a notice or anything. I will never get back this time and so I will never give you a single dollar for the rest of my long life and will discourage others as well. It's been 10 years since I've been in a Costco and our friends suggested we try grocery shopping together. My boyfriend was even considering a membership.
Your rude employees and customers, as well as the messy thoughtless layout isn't even worth my time. Feels like going into a Ross Dress for Less. Your cheap products are no better than Walmart.
Enjoy losing out on a potential new member and at least $200, as well as wasting employee time putting back every single item. Maybe when I have time, I'll make it a habit to go in, put a bunch of stuff in a cart, and let you all put it all back. Have fun with that! I can't imagine how many other times this happens just based on other reviews stating married couples can't even share a card or must be put through this endeavor to waste more money with venmo or something. I'll stick with my usual spots I know and love since they're not super rude and my money is...
Read moreI hate to give a one star, Billy in sales and manager Oscar are both great and deserving of praise. But the rest of the team is pretty awful. I had to keep explaining my issue over and over again. It was related to Costco Sameday, by the way, PLEASE DON'T EVER USE THIS SERVICE. They will steal money from you and no one will tell you where the money went.
Much of my frustration came from explaining the same things over and over to the same people. They acted like I was stupid or something. I did not appreciate the attitude coming from the associates. They all get in your business and talk over each other to put in their word about why you are wrong. Their customer service desk always looks insanely busy even when there's one or two customers, and people are slow to greet you. People at the desk need to go through some kind of training for basic CS skills. I haven't had this bad of an experience at other Costco stores.
I had other issues with the customer service that were unrelated to the main problem I was having; I didn't appreciate the way that the self-checkout lady asked for my membership. She seemed overly pushy when she asked and I also don't get the point of asking? It's not like you can check out without scanning your card, or, god forbid, even enter the store without it. It just seemed like harassment but I was already in a bad mood, so who knows.
I generally like Costco, but will be MUCH more wary of ordering things here given the hassle and headache of trying to get my money back (and I didn't even get it back after like an hour of waiting, talking on the phone, customer service, etc). I've always had good experiences until I started coming to...
