Bad experience will not be back

I decided to update my review with context, now that I’ve had a chance to cool off some. It’s still a 1 star review, because the barber didn’t listen or chose to ignore what I said. I told him that I wanted to preserve as much length on top as possible because I was self-conscious about it, so I asked for a trim. What he did was take over an inch off and make something that I was already self-conscious about much much worse. When I told him he took too much off the top, he didn’t apologize, he simply said “ok” and then followed it up with “I’ll see you in about a month”. Did I pay? Yes, because he did cut my hair, did I tip, yes because I was in a bit of shock and it’s simply habit… there was no context on why he took that much off, no explanation, no apology. This was my first time here and will be my last and I’m still debating next steps in talking to the licensing board. It was bad in that moment and was worse after washing, it’s very uneven in places and it’s obvious that the sides of the top are longer than the center, forcing me to arrange it in a way that looks horrible. WOW! I live out of town, but came into town to see my family. Was able to book an appointment with Mr. Justin Kennedy. And man, I am thankful I did.

The Experience: Justin is a master craftsmen who is passionate about his trade. His tools are all well maintained, and so his is own hair and beard! He not only plied his trade with a confidence that assuaged any fears of using a barber for the first time, BUT he is very personable. The cut took about 30 minutes, but it flew by, as the conversation never stopped.

The cut: I didn’t give Justin much direction, just told him I liked it High and tight, and he could worry about the rest. I walked away with the best hair cut of my life. He ensured that not a hair was out of place, and even finished the cut with a hot shave of the neck line.

Overall: As part of my career, I secret shop 5-star resorts, spas, and restaurants. I’ve had my hair cut in some spas that are ranked in the top 5 of the country, the experience Justin provides BLEW every other haircut I’ve ever had. Justin has cut my hair a few times, as I live out of town. I found myself in town and got an interview request via Zoom. Coming out of quarantine, I needed to be cleaned up with a quickness. Even though his schedule was jam packed, he came in early just to get me in.

This was my first visit to his new Hopkins Ave location, what a cool spot. A couple arcade games and soft lounge seating, to keep you entertained and comfortable while you wait. But Justin is such a great barber, you usually only have to wait a minute or two. So enjoy the space after your fresh cut.

Justin is a pro’s pro. His equipment is top of the line, and he keeps it clean and pristine. The care and dedication he puts into his equipment, sets the bar for his standard of care for you as his guest. He provides an absolutely fantastic hair cut and beard trim. You won’t find anyone better.

But what really sets Justin apart is his personable approach to his trade. While my cut today took 45 minutes, it flew by due to the fantastic conversation.
