I had informed KU Health Ortho (Tall Grass) ortho that I was going to get a second opinion regarding a second effort to fix my shoulder --first surgery was in August of 2023-- but I was talked out of it- when I was informed that the Dr. said he was âGoing to Fix Itâ
I was scheduled to see Doctor Vosburgh on 6/13/24 to discuss upcoming surgery ⌠and did so. I had been asked at the VA if I wanted to see the same doctor. I told them that I was very fine with Dr. Vosburgh, and he was very familiar with my status, so âcertainlyâ. The Doctor had not (he stated) received the MRI (very recent one, sent over by the VA) Had not Read the Evaluation. Had not seen the actual CD/DVD. But he informed me that because of my age, ânothing further could be done to fix itâ. I reminded Dr Vosburgh that in the first week after the last surgery, I had a bad fall that caused some severe pain to my shoulder for many days. We (MaryAnn and I) had informed him of this when we met him for the follow-up. (Aug 23) He had no record or memory of it. He said, âit may or may not have had an impact on healing.â ??? but maintained that nothing could be done to fix it due to my age (???) I informed him that the MRI results I had received from the latest MRI indicated the conditions. to be (to my mind), worse than the original prior to the first surgery. He went out of the room and returned with a med-tech (PA) and with the MRI results. (3 pages) After a rather quick look at the results, he informed me that âwhomever provided. those result-analysis was not making any sense, and that they had a âLanguage Problemââ. I then asked about the part that stated: There appear to be postoperative changes from the previous Rotator cuff repair. (please see attached MRI Results) He then looked at page two of the MRI summary. He again explained this was due to, âa language problem with the author of the evaluation.â I asked about the part: âThe patient is at risk for more severe tearing of the infraspinatus tendon.â He again explained âthis made no sense, and this was due to, âa language problem with the author of the evaluation.â I asked about the cystic massâs (one nearly 3 inches) and he said that means nothing. I asked if I could get somebody else to look at the MRI. He said he will look at the actual MRI (He Now somehow Does have the DVD/CD)
The conclusion was that a âballoonâ procedure can be done. He says it is a balloon with saline and he doesnât know how it works, but it could, âEase discomfortâ. I said I needed to think this over.
I have no concern with discomfort other than that it means Thereâs a problem. AND I WANT TO BE FIXED. (as much as possible). I called his office and talked to Diane. I told her that I wanted to stop and get a second opinion. She said she would call me back⌠which she did. She said she is in the Doctors office, he is looking at the DVD ânowâ and says he will âFiX ITâ. I was happy and scheduled to Procedure to take place an the St Francis Hospital Location.
I wrote down that the VA Ortho people who did the MRI summary said I should ask for the Surgery Transcript. I was out of it after the surgery but my wife told him we wanted the transcript. He said to access the app mychart.kutopeka
When we looked at the chart, the details of the anesthetists was extensive. The details of the surgery were minuscule.
No mention of 90 percent of the details listed in the MRI Report. No mention of which tendon(s) of the Rotator Cuff were PARTIALLY Repaired or to...
Read moreI absolutely hate this hospital, and only had to go because I got diverted from Stormont. I've been here twice, once as a visitor, once as a patient. Patient being yesterday. As a visitor, the hallways are so incredibly confusing and barely labeled. Not to mention, why are practically all the doors closed after 6 or 7 pm? I was trying to pick up my father in law and it took me 10 minutes of just trying to find the right area, where I then proceeded to wander around to find someone to take me to him. Now, as a patient. The only people who look like they actually want to be there are literally the security guards. Every other member of staff looked like they hated their life. That doesn't happen at Stormont, ever. When I got to my room after an ambulance ride(one of the EMT's smelled like weed by the way, you might want to get that checked out), the nurses came in, and I will admit a few of them were nice, but one in particular scolded me for not taking my blood pressure medication(not the issue at hand), even though it has been at least 6 months since I had taken it. But everyone latched on to high blood pressure. I explained that the potential long term side effects scared me and I honestly forgot to call my doctor and figure something else out. Minutes later I hear in the hall "this guy is worried about dementia when he is having a stroke!" First of all, not a stroke. I'm still here, doctor said lungs heart and brain are fine. Second, yes, I would much rather die from a stroke than dementia. 5 minutes vs 10 to 15 YEARS of suffering, forgetting who you are, eventually unable to speak, read, write, meanwhile you slowly lose your lucid self, and everytime you are lucid you are reminded how miserable your life is? Easy choice for me. Third, while I was more stable at that time, I felt like I was fighting to stay conscious in the ambulance. So when I hear stroke when my mental capacity is already low, it made my blood pressure go higher when they were trying to make it lower. Thanks. So incredibly unprofessional and unnecessary. You weren't even the doctor, so what are you doing trying to diagnose me? And the doctor? It seemed like everytime he asked me questions he was so incredibly impatient, even though I repeatedly told him confused, dizzy, etc. if I'm confused, you might want to give me some time to think before I answer, not rush things along. Again, blood pressure went up even after having had blood pressure meds added. And when I left? THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG!!! He told me that they don't run toxin screens when that is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED! I had concerns of chemical exposure and I was treated like I was a careless idiot. Such a waste of time. Every single member of staff should be ashamed for either treating me that way, or allowing me to be treated that way. Stormont is 110%(because that's the effort they give) better than St Francis, and anyone who says otherwise hasn't been...
Read moreIf no stars were an option I'd give that... my 73yr old mother was admitted for serious abdominal pain... mri found a spot near the pancreas.. performed a EGD and all the sudden there is nothing... and she wakes up from the procedure in worse pain than when she started. We were smiling and singing prior to the procedure. Afterwards they had to give her 2 rounds of fentanyl and some Ativan and she still was in pain... BP went to 207/110... her normal on chart is 127/85... after getting her back to her room the nurse who lacked compassion came way later... i had to place b/p cuff on.. she was not concerned and really didnt care, they wanted to discharge her because they couldnt find what's wrong and wanted to blame it on smoking. Which even if that was the case their procedure irritated her condition and then they wanted to put her out with an elevated BP and she is crying and moving uncontrollably from the pain. THIS IS NOT KU MED IN KC... they are giving that title a bad name! they carry the title but do not operate in the same capacity... they lack compassion and empathy which are key components for a hospital setting. They will probably read this and find fault with the patient as it seems to be the MO... I recommend anyone that has serious issues to seek treatment at Stormont or just stay home...because it's one thing to be in pain it's entirely different kind of pain when you feel the people who are PAID to help you could care less... same trash bedding for 3 days... gown that she had blood on Monday was still laying on the counter on Wednesday. Don't get me wrong not all of them are bad. They are good to people that really don't have major issues.. The overnight nurse Christine on the 7th floor made me feel so much better than I did all day... she was aware there was nothing she could do but what she could do is listen... show empathy and compassion. My anxiety went down I was no longer overwhelmed and crying from this horrible experience. I was ready to risk my moms life and just take her home without consent. If they could have more of her (Christine) in the hospital it just may change the narrative of your 1stars... outside of her I'd never come here again I'd rather take her back to stormont.even tho they could never figure it out...they made sure she was stable b4 discharge and the nurses altho spread thin were still attentive..I had no problem leaving my mother in the hospital at stormont. At UofK it's not a chance I'm willing to take.. no compassion at all outside of breast cancer and birth centers.. âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸đŤ Negative 5...
