Mexican Taco Shop — Restaurant in Topeka

For here and Pancho’s I’ve heard from many people about how they are good but they’re “too expensive” and am honestly shocked. There’s like maybe two menu items (out of the like 300 different items by the way) that are slightly pricey but it’s for higher quality stuff that costs a bit more to make but otherwise oh my God the prices are fantastic! All burritos are between 4 and 5 dollars roughly and a) that’s pretty cheap anyways maybe a dollar more than taco bells non-dollar menu items BUT the thing of it is like everyone else said you get so much food. I can put away some food when I’m hungry and when I go here I get a burrito and chips and queso and a it’s always two meals for me maybe if I’m starving one big meal and a good sized snack later, but the burritos are freakin massive. On top of that the quality is incredible. Being a fast food over the counter type place, you wouldn’t expect the quality to be that of a nice sit down Mexican restaurant such as El Mez or something right? That’s what I thought was picturing a little better Taco Bell but I was wrong right up there with any fine dine in Mexican place. Here and ponchos both get an A++++ from me keep it up thanks you guys!

My recommendations - 1) Texano burrito my favorite it’s pretty simple but seasoned and blends together awesome. It has chicken seasoned with lots of flavorful spices, sour cream, cheese and fried cubed potato’s. Like I said sounds plain but the seasoned chicken just kills the game 2) next two burritos are tied for second favorite but the Chile verde burrito which is carnitas or pork cooked in the verde salsa, rice, and beans. Sooo good nice and spicy I LOVE their verde salsa it’s awesome. 3) last but far from least is under the breakfast burritos and is actually the most simple of these but the steak and egg burrito. Obviously steak, eggs, the fried potatoes, and cheese is all it has but holy shoot. That is good. Massive burrito and the steak is soooo killer. That’s my rant sorry this was long people but I just love this place to death haha.

Lastly the other review was correct yes they are 24 hours pretty much every day of the year even almost holidays I see they’re open. Just overnight it’s only drive through....

I would give ZERO STARS if possible!!!! This place is entirely overpriced and overrated!!! I will never go back here again and i cannot wait to laugh when they're the next place here in Topeka that goes out of business!!!! I went through the drive thru & paid nearly $15 for two tacos and a half plate of rice. When i arrived home i found that i was given the wrong order. I made another trip across town to exchange the food. When i arrived home the second time i realized they had given me the order that was prepared for me the first time i ordered which was over 30 minutes prior to my arriving back. The tacos were refridgerator cold and the shells were soggy not to mention i did not get any salsa with my order. I once again made another trip across town this time i just wanted to get my money back. Their lobby was closed so i could not go in. I went through the drive thru AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME to request my money back. There was no one else in line or in the store yet the cashier made me wait at the window for nearly 15 minutes to receive my money back. I had to get out of my car and look through the window to even figure out where she had gone. I asked her what was taking so long and why i had to wait that long to get my money back. Apparently she thought it was appropriate to leave me waiting for 15 minutes while she wrote her boss a note. It literally took her less than a minute to get my money out of the drawrer. Im assuming she was leaving him a note because i told her i would be leaving a bad review online. I made three trips wasting my time and gas driving back and forth across town and I'm still setting here starving. I will not be returning!!!! I was not offered ANYTHING for my inconvenience as a matter of fact i was told it was against their policy. Like most businesses in Topeka they need to learn about customer retention and customer satisfaction. The only reason they're still in business is because they're open 24hrs and get all of the late night business. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. There are numerous places across town where you can get better food, better service, better prices. DO NOT WASTE...

I'm being generous with 4 stars.

I didn't like the red hot sauce, seems like there was no real concentrated effort to create a great taste with the food.

Green sauce was better, red hot sauce I give 4 stars out of 10.

Green sauce I give 6.5 out of 10.

The rice saved the meal, even though the portion amount they give for the price is too small, I do give the rice 8.5 out of 10 though.

My burrito shell was browned (being generous here) in more than two spaces, and it's not enough guacamole inside of it, though I am very glad I didn't taste any fat inside of the Carne asada burrito, and the taste was actually good, I give the Carne asada burrito though disappointed with the shell and lack of guacamole. I give the burrito 8.3 out of 10.

The cook has to remember to space out the cilantro and onions, so that it's not mostly at the end of the burrito.

I'm telling you guys, with the perfect shell and more guacamole and spacing out the onions and cilantro so that it is through entire burrito, I'd give the burrito at least 9.2 maybe even 9.5.

I was disappointed with the rolled tacos, maybe consider lightly seasoned shells or shift to using ground beef instead of shredded beef.

Green sauce (salsa verde) saved the rolled tacos, trust me.

What I was actually disappointed in was the amount of cheese they put on them.

Think about this.....very very very thin cheese, and the amount they gave was barely visible in within the lettuce, I'm being honest, barely visible.

So my rolled tacos topping wise was 70% lettuce, 25% guacamole, and 5% cheese, I should have asked for extra cheese.

I have 4 stars because last time I came I had a 4.3 out of 5 star experience. This time it was more like a 3.1 to 3.3 tops and I am still being generous.

Customer service from cashier was top notch, she is a major reason why you have 4 star rating instead of a 2 star rating

Next time, I will be brutally honest.

This place has 4.5 at minimum potential. The lighting should be brighter for dine in, though cashier was welcoming, the inside needs...
