This place is a literal dream come true. We had never been to Bayfield before, but we were looking for a getaway where we could rent some fat bikes for the day and go exploring. We happened to stumble upon the Howl Adventure Center while researching online and immediately our decision was made. It has exceeded every hope and expectation. You can rent for a half day or a full 24 hours, we did the full day rental. We could leave right from the adventure center or we were free to choose to transport our bikes to another starting location of our choice. There is a fool-proof, super easy bike reservation tool on their website which makes it so easy to plan your trip. If you are less of a planner and fly by the seat of your pants, like us, we were able to walk right in and ask for bikes. Stick helped us get a bike fit to our size. They had a large selection of sizes, and he was ready and willing to make even slight adjustments to make our experience comfortable and dreamy. He handed us a map and recommended three locations of trails of different scenery and ability options. And! just to make our 24 hour rental worth it and to get the most out of it as possible, he gave us a lock and the combo so we could show up before the store even opened to use the bikes early in the morning. The signage around town was great, easy to follow. We are already talking about coming back as soon as possible. This trip we only scratched the surface of what we could do in Bayfield and through the Howl Adventure Center. I didn't even talk about the ski rentals, snow shoeing rentals, on-site brewery, or disc golf. I will be talking about this trip for years to come and recommending it to everyone that they go to Bayfield and must visit the Howl Adventure Center! We also got to talk to the general manager of the store and can't say enough of how friendly and knowledgable the staff is. It is very clear they get to live out their passions in what they do and really care about supporting their customers, giving them the ultimate adventure experience...
Read moreWe were on vacation in the Bayfield area for the first time and decided to rent some e-bikes. The employees were really helpful and wanted to make sure we rode in an area that fit our experience level(Beginners). We were really greatful for that. They suggested that we ride to some logging roads/ fire lanes as it should be easy riding, so we took their advice and did so. That’s were the fun started and stopped. After we road like 2 miles and got going on the logging roads/fire lane we were directed too, we encountered rutted road and then got water/mud holes after mud holes. We had to constantly get off the bikes to try and navigate around the mud/water. Once we finally got through that and to an actual road, we were full of mud and scratches from having to go into the woods and around the water and decided to take that road back after only 2hrs out of our 4 hr rental. When we got back they asked how it was. After I told them our not so great experience based on their recommendation they just said “oh ya, guess we forgot about all the rain we have had recently…. But did the bikes work?”. Really, at that point you were more worried that the bikes worked then our terrible experience? In the end, if your going to be in a tourist industry directing customers on recommendations, you should probably understand the trail conditions where you send them and not “forget” that it just...
Read moreI signed up for a nordic skate ski clinic last week. Being a 1st year rookie, I was excited to learn some techniques and overall understanding. The manager Phil greeted all us, checked us in, and introduced us to our instructor, Blaise. The group was kept small (5), which gave ample opportunity for personal feedback and encouragement. Blaise was very knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. Our confidence soared by the end! Something that stood out to me that I thought was super cool, was the trails. They were right out the back door. I didn't know what to expect when it came to the condition of the trails, but was very impressed by the condition and grooming of the trails. They had both classic and skate trails, and for us rookies, the trail was wide and had nice long stretches to be able to observe Blaise as he demonstrated certain techniques. A couple of us kept ascending and descending this one part on the trail, working on our technique, and at one point we looked up and there were 5 deer curiously crossing the trail ahead of us. It was like a winter wonderland! Heading back out of the cold as sunset arrived, I was very satisfied with the individual instruction, the trails, and the customer service. I hope they continue these clinics. A...
